Job summary

VERSANT Media, LLC, through MS NOW, is seeking a Segment Producer to join our newsroom. You will craft compelling daily segments focused on politics and breaking news for linear and digital platforms.

Responsibilities include researching, writing, interviewing, and coordinating video/audio, with on-air control room duties and editorial planning support. The role offers opportunities across shows and timely storytelling.

Qualifications

• Must have a bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
• Strong writing skills and knowledge of American politics.
• Strong research and reporting skills.
• At least 5 years of experience in journalism (cable/network news, website, or print).
• Able to handle daily script deadline pressure.

Responsibilities

• Research, report and write daily segments.
• Write and suggest interview questions for each segment.

• Communicate daily story development with senior producer.
• Be in the control room during live segment airings.
• Participate in editorial planning.

Job Description

MS NOW is seeking a Segment Producer to join our newsroom. If you're passionate about politics and breaking news and thrive in fast-paced environments, this role is for you. The position requires strong editorial judgment, attention to detail, and a keen eye for timely, impactful storytelling across linear and digital platforms.

Our Segment Productions are dedicated to specific show teams across the MS NOW newsroom and will be dedicated to working on a specific schedule.

Qualifications

• Must have a bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
• Strong writing skills and knowledge of American politics
• Strong research and reporting skills
• At least 5 years of experience in some form of journalism required (i.e. cable or network news, website, newspaper)
• Candidate should be able to deal with daily script deadline pressure

Desired Qualifications

• Possess ability to develop story ideas, research, and plan segments
• Ability to "book" guests, and work with graphics and video elements
• Exceptional editorial skills: Ability to recognize stories with high potential for provocative, compelling television
• Knowledge of current events, politics, and pop culture
• Wide-range reader of news, including op-eds
• Proficient in both tape and desktop editing
• Edit room experience and breaking news experience is preferred

Additional Job Requirements

• Must be willing to work in New York, NY
• Must have unrestricted work authorization to work in the United States
• Must be willing and able to work flexible hours, under tight deadline pressure, including breaking news

Salary Range: $93,000 - $110,000
