Job summary

Smiths Detection is seeking a Test Engineer to provide system-level test expertise across CT Explosives Detection Systems, handheld detectors, and airport checkpoints. You will analyze requirements, design test plans, and automate regression and integration tests while mentoring junior engineers.

The role requires 5+ years in SW testing, strong SQA fundamentals, and hands-on Linux/Windows experience. On-site at Edgewood Maryland, with travel to support development and customers.

Qualifications

• Strong fundamentals in SQA.
• Experience with version control systems (SVN, Git) and bug tracking (JIRA).
• Hands-on Linux/Windows system software experience.
• Willing to work with CT systems swapping parts and testing.
• Proven collaboration across teams in a fast-paced environment.
• Knowledge of Python scripting and C/C++ testing languages is a plus.
• Excellent written and oral communication; travel to field sites may be required.

Responsibilities

• Analyze requirements and develop test plans and cases.
• Execute manual and automated tests and thoroughly document results.
• Lead and mentor junior test engineers on project assignments.
• Support automation goals and provide detailed requirements to the automation team.
• Collaborate with software engineers and architects on test strategy and improvements.
• Ensure adherence to lab safety and testing standards.
