Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in a related field.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience supporting planning, implementation, administration, and maintenance of electronic security systems in a multi-building campus environment.
  • Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Valid driver's license.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee installation, configuration, testing, and operation of access control, CCTV, alarms, and related security technologies.
  • Coordinate with Security Technology Managers on planning, training, and continuous improvement of campus security systems.
  • Troubleshoot, diagnose, system optimization, and preventive maintenance planning.
  • Coordinate with campus departments and teams to ensure alignment with standards, timelines, and project expectations.
  • Perform QA/QC reviews of security installations and ensure compliance with standards and contractual requirements.
  • Support firmware updates, system integrations, and performance of security infrastructure.
  • Contribute to system documentation, standards, and operational procedures.
  • Oversee lifecycle maintenance and complex troubleshooting to resolve issues and plan long-term improvements.
  • Ensure emergency response capabilities are integrated with dispatch and communications systems.

Job Summary

Reporting to the University of Colorado’s Division of Public Safetyand Department of Security Services, the Security TechnologyOperations Professional supports the safety and security of theuniversity community through the oversight, governance,coordination, and technical administration of electronic securitysystems. This position applies independent judgment andsubject-matter expertise to support system lifecycle management,campus integration, performance optimization, emergency responsereadiness, and compliance with university security standards. Therole partners closely with campus collaborators, project managers,and vendors to deliver secure, reliable, and scalable securitytechnology solutions aligned with institutional standards andpublic safety objectives.

This position ensures that security technologies function as anintegrated, campus-wide safety system capable of supportingcoordinated emergency response, rather than as standalonecomponents. The ideal candidate will have technical expertise insecurity systems and surveillance technologies, problem-solvingskills, and the ability to collaborate and communicate effectivelywith cross-functional teams.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be
Security Systems Administration, Coordination, and QualityOversight
  • Provide professional oversight and coordination of theinstallation, configuration, testing, and ongoing operation ofelectronic access control systems, video management systems (CCTV),alarms, and related security technologies.
  • Collaborate with Security Technology Managers to supportplanning, implementation strategies, training initiatives, andcontinuous improvement of campus security systems.
  • Serve as a technical resource for troubleshooting, diagnostics,system optimization, and preventive maintenance planning.
  • Coordinate and communicate with campus departments and teammembers to ensure alignment with security standards, projectexpectations, and timelines.
  • Perform quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC) reviewsof security technology installed by vendors and system integrators,including field verification, documentation review, and acceptancetesting, to ensure compliance with university standards,specifications, and contractual requirements.
  • Partner with IT and systems teams to support firmware updates,system integrations, and overall performance of security technologyinfrastructure.
  • Contribute to system documentation, standards development, andoperational procedures.
  • Oversee and support lifecycle maintenance and complextroubleshooting of electronic security systems, applyingindependent judgment to resolve issues and recommend long-termimprovements.
  • Ensure systems are configured and maintained to supportcoordinated emergency response capabilities, including lockdownfunctionality, real-time monitoring, and integration with dispatchand emergency communication systems.
Project Planning, Estimating, and Technical Consultation
  • Evaluate customer and departmental requests to develop projectscopes, technical recommendations, and preliminary costestimates.
  • Identify appropriate hardware and materials for newinstallations, upgrades, and system enhancements.
  • Provide technical consultation and support to project managers,contractors, and campus partners during construction, renovationand retrofit projects.
  • Assist with vendor coordination, review of submittals, andtechnical input throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Ensure projects incorporate enterprise integrationrequirements, emergency response functionality, and long-termoperational sustainability.
Security Technology Program Governance, Standards, and Strategy
  • Contribute to the development, implementation, and continuousimprovement of campus-wide security technology standards, policies,and protocols.
  • Contribute to and maintain policies governing the appropriateuse of security technologies, including emergency activationprotocols (e.g., classroom lockdown systems).
  • Partner with Department of Public Safety leadership to alignsecurity technology systems with institutional safety strategiesand emergency response protocols.
Enterprise System Integration
  • Ensure integration of access control, video systems, emergencycommunication platforms, dispatch systems, and buildinginfrastructure.
  • Ensure interoperability of systems to support coordinated,real-time emergency response across campus.
  • Evaluate integration of new technologies into the existingsecurity ecosystem.
Operational Readiness, Testing, and Risk Management
  • Coordinate and oversee testing and validation of securitysystems for emergency scenarios, including lockdown and coordinatedresponse events.
  • Support drills and readiness assessments in partnership withDepartment of Public Safety and campus partners.
  • Identify risks related to system failure during criticalincidents and recommend mitigation strategies.
  • Ensure systems maintain operational readiness during high-riskor emergency situations.
What You Should Know

This position will work a shift performed during the hours of 10 am- 8 pm, Wednesday - Saturday. Work will be performed onsite withthe possibility of occasional hybrid work modality, and flexibilityin schedules/work hours is needed to account for staffing gaps andcrisis management.

What We Can Offer

The salary range for this position is $74,400 - $92,000 annually.

What We Require
  • Bachelor's Degree in a related field. Related work experience can substitute for education on a year-for-year basis.
  • Minimum 3 years of progressively responsible experiencesupporting the planning, implementation, administration, andmaintenance of electronic security systems in a multi-building orcampus environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate technical concepts clearlyand effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences andability to read, interpret, and apply technical diagrams,schematics, and system documentation.
  • Possession of valid driver’s license.
