Position Overview
Performs as the Team Leader in the Security Department. Provides direction to the staff on a shift. Utilizes knowledge, security expertise, support, and education to ensure optimal performance of the Security department. The Team Leader is the first line of support to the staff performing their duties.
Minimum Qualifications (Hired Before September 1, 2023)
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Must attain TASER user certification within one year.
- Valid Driver’s License required and must be maintained during employment.
- Satisfactory completion of armed security officer training requirements.
- ACT 235 certification must be obtained before initial employment and maintained thereafter.
- Completion of departmental Lethal Weapon Training and coursework.
- Certification in HeartSaver First Aid within 60 days of hire.
- Pass WV DHHR Protected Services Record Check and WV CARES fingerprint-based criminal background check.
Minimum Qualifications (Hired After September 1, 2023)
- High School diploma or equivalent AND 4 years of security experience.
- OR Associate’s degree in criminal justice, criminology, forensics, law, or related field AND 2 years’ experience.
- OR Bachelor’s degree in related field AND 1 year experience.
- Must attain TASER user certification within one year.
- Valid Driver’s License required and must be maintained during employment.
- Satisfactory completion of armed security officer training requirements.
- ACT 235 certification must be obtained before initial employment and maintained thereafter.
- Completion of departmental Lethal Weapon Training and coursework.

Core Duties and Responsibilities

- Coordinate daily team functions to ensure task completion.
- Support staff through cooperative problem solving, team building, and professional demeanor. Serve as a role model.
- Lead based on instructions from Security Supervisors/Manager regarding policies, procedures, and practices.
- Provide feedback on team member performance and work status.
- Assist with employee evaluations and provide input on performance reviews.
- Participate in peer interviews for hiring security staff.
- Perform preliminary investigations of incidents.
- Communicate effectively with incoming shift.
- Respond to emergency situations following protocol, including escalation of force up to armed response.
- Engage in positive customer service, assisting patients, visitors, and staff.
- Maintain visibility at assigned locations to provide information and assistance.
- Respond courteously to requests for information/assistance.
- Provide physical assistance, transport, and room access services.
- Monitor traffic flow, assist disabled vehicles, issue permits, and enforce parking violations.
- Help prevent accidents, theft, and vandalism.
- Serve as first-line communicator during emergencies with hospital leadership.
- Perform building rounds, door unlocks, and exterior patrols.
- Recommend security improvements.
- Participate in problem solving, crisis management, and system implementation.
- Interact with hospital leadership at all levels.
- Report suspicious situations and incidents.
- Assist during fire, disaster drills, animal control, valuables transport, and lost/found issues.
- Document activities and incidents accurately and legibly.
- Respond to emergencies such as assaults, disputes, fire, vandalism, threats, theft, accidents, and disasters.
Physical Requirements
- Sit, stand, and walk for entire or double shifts.
- Lift, push, or pull up to 80 pounds.
- Tolerate adverse environmental conditions.
Work Environment
- Exposure to outside weather conditions frequently.
