FLATHEAD VALLEY REENTRY CENTER

KALISPELL, MT

The Security Supervisor/Correctional Lieutenant at the Flathead Valley Reentry Center serves as a member of the leadership team at the facility and is the highest-level security position in the facility. This is a new position at the Department of Corrections’ newest prerelease center. This facility provides a supportive environment for offenders to transition to the community, while providing security and accountability measures to support public safety.

This position performs administrative, field training, and security duties relative to the safety of the public, offenders, and staff members and the security and orderly operation of the prerelease center.

Assists with administrative functions for the facility and serves as a member of the management team for the facility.

Perform supervisory duties and completes appropriate personnel functions within the facility.

Compose scheduling for all security staff.

Develop, implement, and maintain all security and emergency procedures for the facility.

Ensure subordinates read, understand, and are familiar with all security procedures for the facility through direction and training.

Create, maintain, and approve time sheets, as well as approving leave requests.

Complete performance evaluations and conduct appraisal interviews.

Ensure appropriate staff performance by modeling appropriate behavior, counseling, using progressive discipline, conducting administrative investigations.

Conduct and participate in employment suitability boards and panels, and participating in recruitment, selections and promotions

Perform administrative duties over the entire function of the facility in the absence of the Operations Manager.

Perform security functions for the facility when necessary.

Serve as an on-call staff member on a rotating basis.

QUALIFICATIONS

The knowledge, skills and abilities for this position are typically acquired through a combination of education and experience equivalent to:

Bachelor’s degree in criminal justice or a related field is required (Experience may be substituted for education at the rate of two years’ experience to one year education).

Law enforcement / Corrections experience is preferred.

Two years’ supervisory experience required which may be included in prior stated experience requirement.

Basic POST Certification is required.

Alternative combinations of education and experience will be considered on a case-by-case basis .

PUBLIC SAFETY OFFICER

This position requires POST Basic Certification after attending training at the Montana Law Enforcement Academy and successfully completing one year of employment with the Department of Corrections. In addition to the training and experience requirements, to be POST Certified, the successful candidate(s) must:

Be a citizen of the United States of America.

Be at least 18 years of age.

Be fingerprinted for a criminal history search.

Not been convicted of a crime for which could have led to being imprisoned in a federal or state penitentiary.

Be of good moral character, as determined by a thorough background screen.

Have a high school diploma or equivalent.

Possess or be eligible for a valid Montana driver’s license.
