Job summary

MoMA PS1 in New York is seeking a Security Supervisor to oversee a designated area, ensuring all security officers follow policies, respond to emergencies, and protect people, property and artwork. You will supervise staff, provide training and coaching, maintain documentation, and collaborate with a diverse community while promoting safety and high professional standards.

Qualifications

  • Minimum five years experience in security with 3–5 years in lead or supervisory roles.
  • Experience in cultural, educational, or large public access locations.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google Workspace.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication; strong leadership and organizational skills.
  • High School diploma or equivalent; New York State Guard License preferred.
  • CPR/AED/FSD certification preferred; training provided.
  • Ability to supervise security officers, handle emergencies, and multitask as a console operator.
  • Five-day work week including Saturday and Sunday.

  • Formally evaluates employees’ performance, providing coaching and feedback.
  • Resolves work-related security issues and assigns officers accordingly.
  • Collaborates with a diverse and multicultural community; maintains daily operations documentation.

Job description

Supervises activity within an assigned area, ensuring all security officers adhere to established departmental policies. Manages and responds to all emergencies within the assigned location. Responsible for following departmental guidelines to safeguard people, property, and assets.
Supervisory responsibilities: Security Officers
Reports to: Assistant Security Manager
Responsibilities:
  • Drives the implementation of the Security department’s strategic plan, including all resources, processes, systems, and functions to maintain and effectively safeguard the Museum, its employees, trustees, visitors, physical properties, and the art.
  • Supervises assigned staff on a daily basis, providing relevant training, feedback, guidance, professional development, etc.; ensures compliance with and comprehension of Museum policies and relevant collective bargaining agreement (when applicable).
  • Promotes positive working relationships within the Security department for both union and non-union staff. Implements suitable corrective measures to enhance employee performance.
  • Formally evaluates employees’ performance, providing coaching and feedback.
  • Resolves employee work-related problems and issues as it relates to security officer assignments.
  • Works collaboratively with a diverse and multicultural community.
  • Ensures that communication, documentation, and reporting are complete as it relates to daily operations and personnel management
  • Performs any other duties reasonably related to the functions described above.
Requirements:
  • High School diploma or equivalent (some college preferred). New York State Guard License
  • CPR/AED/FSD certification preferred, but training will be provided.
  • Three to five years lead or supervisory experience. Minimum five years experience in the Security field.
  • Experience in cultural, educational, or large public access locations. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, along with strong leadership and organizational skills.
  • Display exceptional customer service and communication skills
  • Ability to supervise security officers, to handle emergency situations, and to multitask as a console operator
  • Proficiency in the Microsoft Office software suite (Word, Excel, Outlook), as well as the Google Workspace software suite and other standard office procedures and equipment.
  • Ability to walk/stand for extended periods of time
  • Five-day work week includes Saturday and Sunday
  • Demonstrated knowledge of security practices, including emergency response.
  • Basic first aid/CPR knowledge and AED certification. Applicants are not required to possess the S-95 and F03 certifications at the time of hiring, but they must be willing to obtain them. The cost of acquiring these certifications will be covered by the employer. Applied knowledge of fire-life-safety systems and other related security devices.
Compensation and Benefits
$25.00 Per Hour. Benefits include 20 days paid vacation leave; 10 days paid sick leave; 11 paid holidays; and 3 paid personal days; participation in a 401(k) savings plans, life insurance; medical/health (including visual and dental); transit, health, and dependent care FSA; and pension plan.
