Job summary

TRISTAR is seeking a Technical Writer to support the Security Division at NSWC Crane. The role focuses on documenting, standardizing, and maintaining Security SOPs, local policies, instructions, and governance documents, while collaborating with government personnel and SMEs to ensure compliant execution of security programs at NSWC Crane.

Qualifications

• Active Secret clearance (or ability to obtain/maintain).
• Must be a U.S. Citizen.
• Experience writing technical documentation, preferably in security, defense, or government environments.
• Ability to translate complex security processes into clear, actionable documentation.
• Strong understanding of security program elements such as physical security, emergency response, risk assessments, and compliance frameworks.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office, SharePoint, and project management tools (e.g., Microsoft Project).
• Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple tasks.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to collaborate effectively with SMEs, government personnel, and project managers.

Responsibilities

• Develop, write, and maintain Security SOPs, local instructions, and policy updates.
• Standardize documentation across the Security Division to ensure clarity, consistency, and compliance.
• Produce high-level governance documents defining organizational security standards, roles, and responsibilities.
• Create step‑by‑step operating procedures, work instructions, and detailed task‑level guidance tailored to specific security programs.
• Draft and maintain security plans, including physical security plans and emergency response plans.
• Prepare risk assessment documentation, including threats, vulnerabilities, mitigation strategies, and residual risk.
• Develop compliance documentation, including evidence packages and narratives aligned to regulatory or framework requirements.
• Create training and awareness materials, such as guides, playbooks, and reference materials supporting operational readiness.
• Develop, prepare, and maintain program/project execution reports, including Microsoft Project plans and Excel‑based reporting tools.
• Prepare presentations and briefing materials for reviews and stakeholder updates.
• Provide database support and assist with data management for specified systems.
• Support administrative and managerial tasks related to technical manuals, drawings, and other technical data.
• Maintain records, prepare reports, and provide comments as required, subject to Government approval.
• Assist in establishing and maintaining technical data tracking systems/tools and support the control and dissemination of materials.
