Position Details
Title of Position: Security Shift Supervisor
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Department: Security
Reports to: Security Manager
Pay: $26.27/hr
Positions reporting to this position: Residential Aides, Security Guards
Purpose of the Position
The Security Shift Supervisor is responsible for ensuring that the shelter is appropriately staffed to keep all residents, staff, and visitors safe and secure during the assigned shift. They also ensure residents observe house rules and follow safety and security procedures.
Responsibilities
- Assist in initial intake processes with Residential Aides.
- Help clients familiarize themselves with the shelter and identify those with immediate needs.
- Conduct interior, exterior, and perimeter patrols; report observations to Security Manager.
- Coordinate and conduct fire drills and emergency evacuations; perform roll calls and training.
- Gather information for confidential investigations involving Residential Aides and Security Guards.
- Supervise, coach, and train Residential Aides and Security Guards.
- Complete performance evaluations for staff.
- Manage crisis situations, inform staff, and follow up.
- Investigate incidents, prepare reports, and communicate findings.
- Observe residents for signs of substance abuse, child abuse, or criminal activity; notify appropriate staff.
- Understand building features and potential issues.
- Review logs, attendance, visitor, and sign-in records.
- Patrol the shelter and maintain posts as needed.
- Perform vertical patrols and report findings.
- Visit units, report incidents, and participate in meetings and training.
- Perform client intakes and reports using DHS database.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Essential Functions
- Visual observation of CCTV cameras.
- Ascend/descend stairs in an 8-story building.
- Stand and sit for extended periods.
- Lift and operate a fire extinguisher.
Qualifications
- Commitment to Win’s mission and values.
- High school diploma or GED; post-secondary education a plus.
- 2-3 years in social services or residential settings.
- 1-2 years supervisory experience.
- Valid NYS Security Guard License.
- Valid NYS Fire Safety License (F80 or F58).
- Current First Aid/CPR certification.
- Ability to make clear decisions and handle situations fairly.
- Effective interaction with staff and clients.
- Ability to work under pressure and in stressful situations.
- Familiarity with CCTV systems.
- Ability to work in a team, willing to work beyond scheduled hours, nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Effective communication skills in English; bilingual in English/Spanish a plus.
