Responsibilities
- Maintain a safe, secure environment for patients, visitors, associates, volunteers and medical staff; enhance communication and provide immediate response to facility needs.
- Immediate response to calls, especially assists and crisis intervention situations. Possess and utilize professional and interpersonal communication skills. Monitor facilities by means of electronic surveillance from the CMS. Monitor crisis patients in the Emergency Department as needed. Maintain consistent communication with Telecommunications and provide immediate response to Operator requests; appropriate use of radio code system. Relieve Telecommunications Operator as needed. Apply violence intervention and de-escalation skills. Secure and unlock all doors on security lockdown list; respond and reset immediately to alarm notification. Support theft prevention. Respond to helicopter landings; coordinate traffic control and air medical arrivals and departures.
- Work with Administrative/Security Department policies and procedures; problem-solve using policies and procedures for appropriate outcomes. Uphold the SERVICE mission and values statement of the organization. Coordinate through good communication with partners, fellow Security Officers and Associates. Develop, revise, and implement hospital-wide and departmental policy and procedures; coordinate with Infection Prevention, Safety and Disaster Planning Manuals. Ensure that all required persons are displaying appropriate identification badges or visitor stickers.
- Investigate security-related incidents with detailed incident report documentation, with the ability to write incident reports containing correct spelling, grammar and sentence structure. Possess verbal skills to communicate effectively. Perform foot patrol surveillance of interior and exterior facility; patrol parking lots and enforce hospital parking policies. Conduct Life Safety checks, note violations and report them. Maintain working knowledge of fire alarm system. Ensure safe containment of patient valuables and hospital cash boxes. Control access to sensitive areas. Coordinate security measures for special hospital events.
- Use discretion and good judgment under pressure and in emergencies. Maintain and respect patient and associate confidentiality. Develop working relationships with local law enforcement. Assist in coordinating First Response Team during emergencies, fire, and evacuation. Take active role in drills. Maintain fire prevention and safety discipline; keep certifications in Non-violent Crisis Intervention and Hazardous Materials training as applicable for assigned certification level, including containment and cleanup of chemical spills using specialized kits.
