Job summary

Stony Brook University is seeking a Security Services Assistant 1 (NY HELPS) to patrol university facilities, greet visitors, verify credentials, and respond to calls and emergencies.

The role requires meeting Civil Service exam requirements, possessing a NYS Security Guard Photo ID, and maintaining a valid NYS driver’s license; overtime is mandatory. This is a full-time position with duties assisting University Police and ensuring campus safety.

Qualifications

• Must have passed Civil Service exam and be reachable on the Civil Service list.
• Must have a current NYS Security Guard Photo ID issued by the NYS DOS.
• Must meet physical/medical requirements and substance screening.
• Must have a valid NYS driver’s license and clean motor vehicle record.
• Must be able to perform mandatory overtime.

Responsibilities

• Patrol buildings and facilities to identify safety and security concerns.
• Greet visitors and staff while verifying credentials.
• Respond to facility calls for service, events and emergencies.
• Assist clients with disabilities, visitors or employees, including escorting them.
• As directed, assist police and firefighters at the scene of accidents.
• Prepare written reports of shift activities and incidents.
• Prevent theft of state or personal property by presence and witness.
• May operate a motor vehicle to transport people and cargo to emergencies.
• Administer first aid to sick or injured persons.
• Other duties as assigned per rank and department mission.
