Job Summary

The Security Officer at SUNY Upstate patrols and monitors secure and restricted areas, guards SUNY Upstate buildings, entrances, and grounds to prevent and intervene in disturbances to SUNY Upstate processes and operations from irate or potentially unruly patients or visitors. The officer protects the safety and security of patients, visitors, employees, and all who enter Upstate. Must possess and maintain a valid NYS driver’s license.

Minimum Qualifications

• Must possess and maintain a valid Security Guard Photo ID issued by the NYS Department of State.
• NYS Department of Civil Service Eligible List or eligible for transfer.
• Open Competitive (Non‑competitive, NY HELPS) Qualifications:
  • Six months of post‑Security Guard Registration experience as a Security Guard.
  • Six months of experience as a police officer or peace officer.
  • Six months of active U.S. military service performing security duties on a United States military base or vessel with an honorable discharge or under conditions in the NYS Restoration of Honor Act.
