Job summary

Cloudflare in Austin is seeking a Response Engineer to provide premium security product support for enterprise customers. You will analyze threats across OSI layers, assist with incident mitigation, and work with Engineering, Product, and Support to improve defenses.

Strong communication with high-value clients and weekend rotations are required. Responsibilities include monitoring alerts, configuring rules, and collaborating with teams to deploy mitigations.

Qualifications

• At least 2 years of technical support and customer support experience.
• Strong knowledge of OSI model and core network protocols (TCP/UDP, BGP, QUIC).
• Experience in incident response and attack mitigation.
• Proficient with command line / Bash shell in daily tasks.
• Security certifications (CISSP, GCIA, GCFA, GCFE) preferred.

Responsibilities

• Monitor alerts to identify attacks and incidents.
• Collaborate with Engineering/Operations to mitigate threats.
• Help improve Cloudflare products and tooling with feedback.
• Communicate with customers via chat, email, and phone.
• Review alerts, create tracking tickets for incidents needing escalation.
• Configure security rules and contribute to tool improvements.
• Participate in weekend/holiday rotation; typical hours 9–5 PT.
• Apply mitigation rules for L3/4 and L7 threats; analyze traffic.
• Maintain knowledge of iptables and threat landscapes.
• 2+ years of technical and customer support experience essential.
• Strong written and verbal communication with high-value clients.
