Job summary

Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) seeks a Security Researcher to advance red teaming and defense of critical infrastructure. You will develop techniques to emulate cyber-adversaries and support cyber defense for Federal networks and industrial control systems.

The role involves security research, vulnerability analysis, and collaboration with sponsors to deliver innovative tools and approaches within the STAR organization and GS-CAD within the Computing Directorate.

Qualifications

• Ability to maintain a U.S. DOE Q-level security clearance which requires U.S. citizenship.
• Broad experience in program analysis of source code, binaries, or firmware.
• Experience with debuggers, static disassemblers, and decompilers (e.g., IDA Pro).
• Strong written and verbal communication across multi-disciplinary teams.

Responsibilities

• Provide solutions to cyber research projects using automated methods to identify vulnerabilities in software, firmware, and OT systems.
• Contribute to red team operation requirements, penetration testing, and adversarial simulation capabilities.
• Analyze software, firmware, and malware to identify weaknesses and attack vectors, developing repeatable workflows.
• Contribute to source code, binary, and firmware analysis for exploits and mitigations.
• Design, implement, and improve vulnerability assessment and adversary emulation to enhance threat understanding.
