Job summary

Wildlife Conservation Society is looking for an Assistant Zoological Park Maintainer, Security in New York, NY to patrol facilities, inspect buildings, and deter unlawful activity while safeguarding guests and staff. You will monitor alarms, coordinate with public safety, and document observations throughout your shift.

The role emphasizes exceptional customer service, adherence to safety procedures, and teamwork with City and agency partners, under a union classification.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or Equivalent.
• Must obtain and maintain New York State Security Guard Registration. Valid driver license preferred.
• Ability and willingness to work weekends, holidays, evenings, nights, overtime and special events as the schedule demands to provide 24-hour coverage.
• Voluntary option to obtain and maintain FDNY Certificate.

Responsibilities

• Secure the facility by regularly patrolling Aquarium grounds; inspecting buildings, and access points, and the Aquarium perimeter.
• Detain trespassers if possible and notify the supervisor immediately.
• Protect Aquarium guests and staff from harm, theft, or other unlawful activity.
• Prevent property losses and damage by reporting irregularities.
• Observe and report irregularities or unlawful activity to supervisors and/or public safety agencies.
• Monitor alarm systems and report conditions to supervisor or public safety agencies as appropriate.
• Take appropriate actions during park emergencies and drills in accordance with WCS policy.
• Perform daily inspection of all areas of assigned post for safety issues and take corrective action.
• Monitor 2-way radio and email; respond to calls for assistance.
• Monitor access control of NYA buildings, Aquatheater, parking lot, and assist with oversize vehicle access.
• Monitor security cameras and document security/safety issues observed.
• Safeguard and maintain issued security equipment in good working condition.
• During weather emergencies, help secure the park from hazards and implement hurricane/flood protections.
• Provide consistently excellent customer service to Aquarium guests and staff.
• Enforce the Society's guest rules and regulations.
• Understand and implement emergency plans as indicated in the emergency manual.
• Complete daily reports including daily activity, accident, and lost property reports.
• Attend court appearances as required related to work matters.
• May perform limited ground maintenance like shoveling snow from security posts.
• Represent WCS professionally; maintain positive relationships with employees, City, agencies, contractors, and the public.
