Job description

The Security Department at High Point University is seeking a dedicated and professional Security Team Member. This role is essential to maintaining a safe and secure environment for students, faculty, staff, and visitors.

Roles and Responsibilities
  • Uphold university rules and regulations and ensure the safety and well‑being of the campus community.
  • Respond to emergency calls.
  • Conduct routine patrols of campus properties (foot and mobile).
  • Maintain a positive work atmosphere by acting and communicating effectively with students, parents, faculty, co‑workers and administration.
  • Assist with building unlocks and general security assistance.
  • Provide first responder medical aid (AED, CPR, Narcan).
  • Respond to fire alarms and emergency notifications, assess conditions, and evacuate buildings when necessary.
  • Direct traffic on campus.
  • Assist with special events.
  • Provide perimeter protection, vetting of incoming people, and examining doors, windows and gates for security.
  • Monitor closed buildings for unauthorized persons and suspicious activities.
  • Inform and warn violators of rule infractions such as loitering, smoking, or carrying forbidden articles.
  • Provide escort services for visitors, students, staff, faculty, and other authorized individuals.
  • Provide public assistance, including lockout services, jump‑starts, and routine information.
  • Watch for and report irregularities, security breaches, hazards and emergency situations; contact emergency responders as required.
  • Remain alert for the presence of unauthorized persons and rule violators.
  • Perform periodic checks of emergency call boxes and streetlights; report malfunctions.
  • Provide safe and efficient transportation using an institutional vehicle when requested.
  • Patrol and monitor assigned parking areas and garages to provide public security and assistance.
  • Maintain security controls for issued University keys and equipment.
  • Prepare routine, standardized reports.
  • Serve as Campus Security Authority as outlined by the Clery Act.
Qualifications and Requirements
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Minimum 18 years of age.
  • 1‑year applicable security, law enforcement, or military experience; or 3 years of customer service experience (preferred).
  • No motor vehicle moving violations in the past year.
  • No alcohol‑related convictions in the past 5 years.
  • No felony convictions; credit history will be performed.
  • Valid North Carolina driver’s license.
  • Must pass a pre‑employment criminal background check.
  • Must pass a pre‑employment physical agility test, drug screening, medical and psychological assessment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office products.
  • Ability to work in a physically active environment.
  • Ability to work effectively in a group/team environment.
  • Effective interpersonal and customer‑service skills.
  • Ability to write acceptable reports.
  • Ability to conduct security patrols without direct supervision.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to complete routine paperwork.
