Job summary

Altruist is seeking a Security Operations Manager to lead the detection, response, and 24x7 security monitoring for a self-clearing broker-dealer. This hybrid role requires three days onsite weekly in San Francisco FiDi or Culver City, CA, to safeguard our platform and clients.

You will guide a talented team, manage MDR/MSSP relationships, and drive ongoing improvements across SIEM, EDR, and cloud security in a regulated financial services environment.

Qualifications

• 6+ years in security operations, incl. 2+ years leading a SOC or detection & response team.
• Hands-on incident response in a cloud-first environment.
• Depth with SIEM, EDR/MDR, and cloud telemetry (AWS).
• Experience managing MDR/MSSP and/or IR retainer relationships.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science/Engineering or Information Security.
• Technically savvy across cloud and detection stacks (AWS, Kubernetes, Terraform).
• Strong communication, ownership, and problem-solving skills.
• Experience in regulated environments (SEC/FINRA, fintech, or financial services).
• Experience building or standing up a 24x7 SOC or transitioning to managed detection & response.

Responsibilities

• Lead, mentor, and grow the security operations team and define career paths.
• Own 24x7 security monitoring strategy across MDR/RS providers.
• Run end-to-end incident response from detection through recovery.
• Define and report SecOps metrics and SLAs to leadership.
• Mature detection engineering, threat intel ingestion, and SOAR capabilities.
• Drive tabletop and purple-team exercises with Cloud, IT, and Engineering.
• Own day-to-day operation and roadmap of security ops tooling.
