Security Operations (SecOps) Engineer

Location: Waukegan, IL or Richardson, TX (Preferred)

Start Date: Targeting May 18, 2025

Employment Type: Contract-to-Hire

We are seeking two experienced SecOps Engineers to join the Security Operations team supporting enterprise-wide implementation and ongoing support of the Akamai security suite. This is a hands-on engineering role supporting both project-based rollouts and day-to-day operational health of critical security tools. Candidates should bring a strong understanding of networking fundamentals, security protocols, and experience in enterprise environments.

These roles sit within the Security Platform Management group and will work closely with both internal infrastructure/security teams and external Akamai engineering resources to optimize platform performance and coverage.

Key Responsibilities:

• Support the implementation and ongoing operational health of Akamai tools
• Collaborate with internal engineering and security teams (e.g., Cyber Defense Coordination Team - CDCT)
• Provide configuration support and troubleshooting for services including:
• DDoS Protection
• Site Shield
• Prolexic (configured but currently inactive)
• CBN, ION (supported, though not directly owned)
• Web Application Firewall (WAF – in pilot phase)
• Partner with Akamai’s engineering team to resolve escalations or platform limitations
• Provide operational support and ensure high availability for security platform tooling
• Identify and resolve network security and application performance issues
• Help onboard new applications onto the platform in an expanding security environment

Required Skills & Qualifications:

• 4+ years of experience in a SecOps, Systems Engineering, or Security Engineering capacity.
• Hands-on implementation and operational support of Akamai products strongly preferred
• Strong understanding of network protocols, packet routing, and application traffic flow
• Experience with DDoS mitigation, bot detection, and WAF configurations
• Excellent troubleshooting and analytical skills
• Strong communication and collaboration skills — ability to work across technical teams
• Self-driven and comfortable in a fast-paced, evolving security environment
• Ability to quickly learn and adapt to new tools and processes

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience supporting large-scale security platforms in enterprise environments
• Familiarity with broader network and infrastructure technologies
• Background working with or supporting CDCT or similar cyber response teams
