Security Operations Center (SOC) Analyst

JOB SUMMARY:

We are seeking a Security Operations Center (SOC) Analyst to focus on supporting the cybersecurity team by monitoring networks for potential threats, investigating suspicious activities, implementing basic security controls, performing vulnerability scans, and assisting with incident response, all while learning more advanced cybersecurity concepts under the guidance of senior team members.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Watching unusual network traffic patterns, anomalies, and potential security breaches using security information and event management via security tools and systems.
  • Reviewing system logs to identify potential security incidents and investigate further.
  • Help with identifying, assessing, and tracking vulnerabilities across systems and networks using scanning tools.
  • Assisting with the creation and delivery of security awareness training materials to employees.
  • Assist in investigating and responding to security incidents, including containment and remediation steps.
  • Identifying and assisting in applying necessary software updates to systems to address vulnerabilities.
  • Assist with user account management, ensuring that proper authentication methods (e.g., password policies, multi-factor authentication) are enforced and following the principle of least privilege.
  • Assist with preparing documentation and reports for security assessments, audits, and compliance reviews.
  • Configure and maintain security tools, ensuring they are properly implemented and functioning.
  • All other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 1+ years of hands-on experience in cybersecurity via job or internship program.
  • Relevant coursework in network security, system administration, incident response, and ethical hacking.
  • Hands-on experience with security tools and technologies
  • Experience with network security practices and technologies.
  • Familiarity with network monitoring and management tools.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Relevant certifications (e.g., CompTIA Security+, CompTIA Network+) are a plus.

TRAVEL:

  • Travel Required: Minimum , as needed to support the company

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Basic understanding of networking concepts (TCP/IP, firewalls, routing)

Familiarity with operating systems (Windows, Linux)Knowledge of common security protocols (TLS, SSH, SNMP, SSL)Scripting skills (e.g., PowerShell) for automationUnderstanding of security best practices and frameworksUnderstanding of security concepts like authentication, authorization, and confidentialityAbility to analyze logs and identify suspicious activityStrong attention to detail and problem-solving skillsUnderstanding of NIST, its controls and governance and best practicesStrong ability to track actions and follow through on processes.Ability to troubleshoot cyber security issues.
