Job summary

Allied Universal is seeking a Part-Time Security Officer – Access Control in Portsmouth, VA to monitor entry points, verify credentials and enforce access procedures at an aerospace/defense site.

You will deliver outstanding customer service, report security concerns, and work as part of a responsive, safety-minded team in a dynamic environment. This role offers flexible scheduling and opportunities to advance through the Claim a Shift platform.

Qualifications

• CPR and First Aid certification preferred.
• Guard Card or license preferred.
• Be at least 18 years of age for unarmed roles; 21+ for armed roles.
• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Background check and drug screen required by employment policy.

Responsibilities

• Provide customer service to personnel, visitors, and contractors at aerospace/defense locations by following site-specific access-control procedures.
• Verify identification, credentials, authorizations, and visitor documentation before granting access to restricted areas; maintain entry/exit records.
• Monitor access-control systems, alarms, cameras, and communications equipment; report irregularities and unauthorized access attempts.
• Respond to access-control incidents, alarms, and security concerns with calm, clear communication and notify site contacts or emergency responders as needed.
• Conduct regular patrols of entry points, facilities, and perimeter areas to deter unauthorized activity and identify security concerns.

What You’ll Do:

• Provide customer service to personnel, visitors, and/or contractors at an aerospace and defense location by carrying out site-specific access-control procedures and security-related policies.
• Verify identification, credentials, authorizations, and visitor documentation before granting access to restricted areas; maintain accurate entry and exit records as required.
• Monitor access-control systems, alarms, cameras, and communications equipment; report irregularities, unauthorized access attempts, and equipment concerns according to site procedures.
• Respond to access-control incidents, alarms, and critical situations in a calm, problem-solving manner; notify appropriate site contacts and/or emergency responders when needed.
• Conduct regular and random patrols of assigned entry points, facilities, and perimeter areas to help deter unauthorized activity and identify security-related concerns.

Minimum Requirements:

• CPR and First Aid certification is preferred.
• A Guard Card or license is preferred.
• Be at least 18 years of age for unarmed roles; 21+ years of age for armed roles.
• Possess a high school diploma or equivalent.
• As a condition of employment, applicants will be subject to a background investigation in accordance with all federal, state, and local laws.
• Allied Universal will consider qualified applications with criminal histories in a manner consistent with applicable laws.
• As a condition of employment, applicants will be subject to a drug screen to the extent permitted by law.
• Licensing requirements are subject to state and/or local laws and regulations and may be required prior to employment.
• A valid driver’s license will be required for driving positions only.
