Corewell Health in St. Joseph, MI, seeks a part-time Security Officer to patrol hospital buildings and grounds, deter crime, and respond to emergencies, calls for service, and requests for assistance.

You will support safe and efficient parking and transportation services, assist staff, visitors, and patients with directions and escorts, and maintain access control for secured areas while pursuing ongoing training and certifications.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• Preferred: Associate's degree in Public Administration or Criminal Justice.
• Preferred: 2 years of relevant security experience.
• Preferred: Law enforcement academy or military background.
• Must be at least 20 years old and hold a valid Michigan driver's license.

Responsibilities

• Patrols hospital buildings and grounds to deter crime and unsafe conditions.
• Responds to emergencies and requests for assistance.
• Provides support for safe and efficient parking and transportation services.
• Documents incident reports and other required documentation timely.
• Assists staff, visitors, and patients with directions, escorts, and access control.
• De-escalates conflicts and responds to suspicious or emergency situations.
• Maintains training, licensure, and certifications as required.

Job Summary

Patrols hospital buildings and grounds to detect or deter criminal activity and unsafe conditions. Responds to emergency situations, calls for service and other requests for assistance. Provides supports for safe and efficient parking and transportation services.

Essential Functions

• Maintains highly visible foot and vehicle patrols to detect or deter fire, accidents, violations of hospital policies and criminal acts.
• Documents information on incident reports and other required documents in a thorough, factual and timely manner.
• Assists employees, visitors, and patients with directions, lost and found items, vehicle assistance, escorts, and other requests for assistance. Provides access control for secured areas.
• Communicates, collaborates with, and provides appropriate information to patients, visitors, and members of the health care team.
• Manages verbal / physical conflicts using verbal de-escalation, physical presence, restraint techniques or other appropriate legal force options.
• Responds to and investigates suspicious, criminal or emergency situations.
• Engages in continuous study of the entire professional field, including best practices, to maintain the professional competence, knowledge, and skills necessary for the satisfactory performance of all assigned responsibilities. Completes required ongoing training and education, including department specific requirements. Maintains required licensure and certifications.

Qualifications

• 2 years of relevant experience related experience Preferred
• Law Enforcement Academy or Military (active duty) experience Preferred
• in an environment of comparable size and complexity Preferred
• At least 20 years of age with valid Michigan driver license. Required

• CRT-First Aid - AHA American Heart Association 180 Days required Or
• CRT-Stop the Bleed - American College of Surgeons American College of Surgeons 180 Days required
• CRT-Basic Life Support (BLS) - AHA American Heart Association 180 Days required Or
• CRT-Basic Life Support (BLS) - ARC American Red Cross 180 Days required
