Schedule
Full Time: 80 Hours/Biweekly
Hours: 3:00pm - 11:00pm.
Responsibilities and Duties
- Patrol the buildings and premises to prevent fire, theft, vandalism, and intrusion.
- Patrol parking lots to ensure the safety of individuals and the security of parked vehicles.
- Report all suspicious activity, parking violations, and abandoned vehicles.
- Respond to emergency situations such as accidents and injuries, fire alarms, crimes in progress, and safety hazards.
- Provide assistance, summon proper authorities, and police the area to maintain order, safety, and protect property.
- Employ all necessary equipment, including Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), during situations deemed unsafe and during interactions with precaution patients.
- Respond to inquiries for advice or assistance from employees, students, visitors, and other customers; provide physical restraint of psychiatric patients and others as needed.
- Monitor the conduct of visitors on premises; confront unauthorized persons for questioning as needed; secure weapons and contraband.
- Escort personnel and visitors to parking lots and hospital buildings.
- Maintain post as assigned in accordance with training.
- Notify police in case of theft, breaking and entering or other related criminal matters requiring notification of authorities.
- Assist in investigations.
- Maintain records, prepare incident reports and other documents pertinent to safety and security activities and attend hearings.
- Conduct routine visual inspections; report safety and/or fire hazards or security violations.
- Coordinate and/or respond to on site fire drills; respond to on site fire alarms and assist the responding fire department.
- Secure and/or unlock offices and facilities.
- Support the parking policy, enforce parking regulations, provide traffic management, and perform other related duties.
- Comply with all department and organizational policies and procedures.
- Assist with the care and maintenance of department equipment and supplies.
- Perform Security Operations duties as assigned.
- Secure patient valuables and found property.
- Prepare clear, concise, and factual incident reports.
- Ensure all documentation is submitted as required prior to end of shift.
- Complete vehicle checklist.
- Complete monthly inspections as required, including but not limited to panic alarm inspections, fire extinguisher inspections, door alarm inspections, and supporting documentation.
- Complete security access requests within the badge access control system as needed.
- Be willing and capable of working at any post within an assigned setting.
- Assist with the daily operations of the shift, including but not limited to documentation, patrols, responses, post assignments, escalation of incidents, and serve as a Charge Officer as needed.
- Provide administrative support for programs and policy implementation.
- In the absence of a Supervisor or Security Officer III, conduct shift huddles reviewing incidents from the previous shift, current situational awareness information, and upcoming events requiring security intervention and/or assistance.
- Assist Supervisors by ensuring appropriate staffing for oncoming shift if necessary.

Qualifications
Minimum Education
- High School Diploma or GED Required.
Work Experience
- 2 years WellSpan Security Officer Experience in good standing Required.
- 2 years a combination of experience in good standing: WellSpan Security Officer Experience, Other Healthcare Security Officer, Other Security Officer Experience, Military Experience, Law Enforcement Experience (includes police, corrections and probation/parole). In good standing means no disciplinary or corrective action within the last 12 months of employment.
Licenses
- Heartsaver CPR/AED within 90 days Required.
Driver’s License Statement
Must possess a valid driver’s license in the current state of residence. Driving record must meet requirements established by WellSpan Risk Management.
Courses and Training
- Successful completion of the following training courses are required for this position. Security Officer I’s requesting to advance to a Security Officer II position must complete the required training prior to applying for a Security Officer II position. Newly hired Security Officer II’s must complete the training within 3 months of accepting the position with WellSpan.
- FEMA ISP: IS-100.c – Intro to Incident Command System, I-100.
- FEMA ISP: IS-200.C – Basic Incident Command System for Initial Response.
- FEMA ISP: IS-242.c – Effective Communication within 90 days Required.
- Practical and Tactical Handcuffing within 90 days Required.
- Oleoresin Capsicum (Gel) within 90 days Required.
- Taser within 90 days Required.
- Behavioral Emergency Response Training (BERT) within 90 days Required.
