Job summary

WellSpan Health seeks a dedicated Security Officer to maintain a safe and secure environment across hospital facilities in the Lancaster/Ephrata area. Evening shifts (3PM-11PM) and alternate weekends are included.

Responsibilities include patrols, incident reporting, and responding to emergencies with appropriate force per policy. The role requires a High School Diploma or GED, valid driver's license, and Basic Life Support certification within 90 days.

Qualifications

  • Requires High School Diploma or GED.
  • Basic Life Support certification within 90 days.
  • Valid driver's license; driving record meets policy.
  • Completion of FEMA IS-100.c within 90 days.
  • Report writing within 90 days.
  • Practical and tactical handcuffing within 90 days (preferred).
  • OC/pepper spray training within 90 days (preferred).
  • Taser within 90 days (preferred).
  • BERT within 90 days required.

Responsibilities

  • Patrol parking lots and maintain safety of individuals and vehicles.
  • Report suspicious activity, violations, and abandoned vehicles.
  • Respond to emergencies and safety hazards following training and procedures.
  • Assist authorities and police as needed to maintain order and protect property.
  • Use PPE as required during unsafe situations or interactions.
  • Provide assistance and information to staff, patients, and visitors.
  • Secure areas, vehicles, and access points; monitor and restrain when necessary.
  • Prepare incident reports and ensure documentation is complete.
  • Assist with equipment maintenance and department supplies.

Job description

Provides a safe and secure environment for, and responds to the needs of patients, employees, visitors, and other customers of the System. Protects System buildings, assets and premises as assigned.

General Summary

Provides a safe and secure environment for, and responds to the needs of patients, employees, visitors, and other customers of the System. Protects System buildings, assets and premises as assigned.

Shift

Full Time, Evenings: 3PM-11PM
Every other weekend.

Responsibilities
  • Patrols the buildings and premises to prevent fire, theft, vandalism, and intrusion.
  • Patrol parking lots to ensure the safety of individuals and the security of parked vehicles.
  • Reports all suspicious activity, parking violations and abandoned vehicles.
  • Responds to emergency situations such as accidents and injuries, fire alarms, crimes, in progress events and safety hazards and uses the appropriate force to resolve situations by following established training, policies and procedures.
  • Provides assistance, summons proper authorities, and polices area to maintain order, safety and to protect property.
  • Employs all necessary equipment to include Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) during situations that are deemed unsafe and during interactions with precaution patients.
  • Responds to inquiries for advice or assistance from employees, students, visitors, and other customers; provides physical restraint of psychiatric patients and others as needed.
  • Monitors the conduct of visitors on premises; confronts unauthorized persons for questioning as needed; secures weapons and contraband.
  • Escorts personnel and visitors to parking lots and hospital buildings.
  • Maintains post as assigned in accordance with training.
  • Notifies police in case of theft, breaking and entering or other related criminal matters requiring notification of authorities.
  • Notifies Supervisors of events requiring further investigation and assists as directed.
  • Maintains records, prepares incident reports and other documents pertinent to safety and security activities and attends hearings.
  • Conducts routine visual inspections; reports safety and/or fire hazards or security violations.
  • Responds to on site fire drills; responds to on site fire alarms and assists the responding fire department.
  • Secures and/or unlocks offices and facilities.
  • Supports the parking policy, enforcing parking regulations, providing traffic management, and performing other related duties.
  • Complies with all department and organizational policies and procedures.
  • Assists with the care and maintenance of department equipment and supplies.
  • Performs Security Operations duties as assigned.
  • Secures patient valuables and found property.
  • Prepares clear, concise, and factual incident reports.
  • Ensures all documentation is submitted as required prior to end of shift.
  • Completes vehicle checklists

Minimum Education

Licenses
  • Basic Life Support within 90 days Required

Must possess a valid driver's license in the current state of residence. Driving record must meet requirements established by WellSpan Risk Management.
