Job summary

WellSpan Health at Gettysburg Hospital is seeking a Security Officer (PRN) to provide a safe environment for patients, employees and visitors. The role involves patrolling buildings and parking areas, responding to emergencies, reporting incidents, and enforcing safety procedures.

Minimum education is a high school diploma or GED with BLS certification within 90 days. A valid driver’s license is required, along with completion of required training within specified timeframes.

• Behavioral Emergency Response Training (BERT) within 90 days required.

Responsibilities

• Patrols buildings and premises to prevent fire, theft, vandalism, and intrusion.
• Patrol parking lots to ensure safety and security of vehicles.
• Report suspicious activity, parking violations and abandoned vehicles.
• Respond to emergencies and use appropriate force per training and procedures.
• Provide assistance and summon authorities while maintaining order and safety.
• Utilize PPE in unsafe situations and during interactions with patients.
• Respond to inquiries and provide support to employees, students, and visitors.
• Secure weapons and contraband and confront unauthorized persons when needed.
• Escort personnel and visitors to parking lots and buildings; maintain post as assigned.
• Notify police and supervisors of events requiring investigation; maintain incident records.

General Summary

Provides a safe and secure environment for, and responds to the needs of patients, employees, visitors, and other customers of the System. Protects System buildings, assets and premises as assigned.

Essential Functions

• Patrols the buildings and premises to prevent fire, theft, vandalism, and intrusion.
• Patrol parking lots to ensure the safety of individuals and the security of parked vehicles.
• Reports all suspicious activity, parking violations and abandoned vehicles.
• Responds to emergency situations such as accidents and injuries, fire alarms, crimes, in progress events and safety hazards and uses the appropriate force to resolve situations by following established training, policies and procedures.
• Provides assistance, summons proper authorities, and polices area to maintain order, safety and to protect property.
• Employs all necessary equipment to include Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) during situations that are deemed unsafe and during interactions with precaution patients.
• Responds to inquiries for advice or assistance from employees, students, visitors, and other customers; provides physical restraint of psychiatric patients and others as needed.
• Monitors the conduct of visitors on premises; confronts unauthorized persons for questioning as needed; secures weapons and contraband.
• Escorts personnel and visitors to parking lots and hospital buildings.
• Maintains post as assigned in accordance with training.
• Notifies police in case of theft, breaking and entering or other related criminal matters requiring notification of authorities.
• Notifies Supervisors of events requiring further investigation and assists as directed.
• Maintains records, prepares incident reports and other documents pertinent to safety and security activities and attends hearings.
• Conducts routine visual inspections; reports safety and/or fire hazards or security violations.
• Responds to on site fire drills; responds to on site fire alarms and assists the responding fire department.
• Secures and/or unlocks offices and facilities.
• Supports the parking policy, enforcing parking regulations, providing traffic management, and performing other related duties.
• Complies with all department and organizational policies and procedures.
• Assists with the care and maintenance of department equipment and supplies.
• Performs Security Operations duties as assigned.
• Secures patient valuables and found property.
• Prepares clear, concise, and factual incident reports.
• Ensures all documentation is submitted as required prior to end of shift.
• Completes vehicle checklists
