Position Overview

The Security Officer is responsible for ensuring the safety and well-being of patients, staff, physicians, visitors, students, and property. Responsibilities include surveillance, incident reporting, and providing quality guest services and assistance.

Responsibilities

1. Conduct continuous patrols throughout the Medical Center, observing and addressing security and safety violations.
2. Respond promptly to security calls and emergency codes, taking appropriate actions.
3. Control access to the Medical Center, assist visitors and patients, and challenge unauthorized persons professionally.
4. Maintain security of all facilities owned or operated by Hackensack Meridian Health.
5. Manage traffic flow and enforce parking regulations in parking lots.
6. Investigate security incidents, interview witnesses, and document findings.
7. Participate in fire drills, fire watches, and facilitate safety inspections.
8. Provide escorts for vehicles and personnel as needed.
9. Report for duty in proper uniform with ID badges and security insignia.
10. Inspect outer buildings, grounds, and parking areas for hazards.
11. Inspect packages leaving the Medical Center per policy.
12. Prepare incident reports and maintain activity logs.
13. Maintain security equipment and report damages.
14. Keep security leadership informed of safety and security issues.
15. Follow all policies, codes of conduct, and departmental procedures.
16. Complete required training and attend meetings.
17. Perform duties in all weather conditions, including outdoor areas.
18. Execute emergency security procedures as directed.
19. Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required

• High School diploma or GED.
• Excellent communication skills.
• Proficient with computers, including Microsoft Office or Google Suite.

Preferred

• Two years of college credits.
• Previous security or law enforcement experience.

Licenses and Certifications

• Valid driver's license.
• Background checks conducted every two years.
