Job summary

MercyOne Medical Group in Mason City, IA is seeking a part-time Security Officer to maintain order at MercyOne North Iowa Medical Center. You will patrol the campus, enforce hospital regulations, monitor premises, and respond to threats and safety concerns to protect patients, staff and visitors.

The role is a rotating third shift, about 20 hours per week. Requirements include a high school diploma or equivalent, law enforcement education preferred, a valid driver’s license, and solid English

Responsibilities

• Investigate problems and formulate safety solutions.
• Patrol Mercy Medical Center–North Iowa on foot and by vehicle as needed.
• Enforce hospital rules and parking policies.
• Respond to Code calls quickly and follow policy.
• Assist law enforcement and fire personnel as required.

Position Purpose:

The Security Officer carries out the responsibilities of maintaining order within the health center by monitoring and securing the premises and by responding to threats and safety concerns. Enforces all health center regulations in accordance with applicable operation guides. Assists law enforcement agencies and the Mason City Fire Department personnel as required when on medical center property.

What You Will Do:

• Utilizes problem solving knowledge and skills to investigate problems and formulate solutions to improve safety, maximize growth and reduce costs.
• Acts in a professional manner reflecting the mission, philosophy and values of Mercy Medical Center – North Iowa and the Sisters of Mercy.
• Embrace change and takes prudent risk to find new ways to support the mission, encouraging new ideas to serve our patients and communities. Provide and accept coaching and feedback.
• Patrols all buildings and grounds of Mercy Medical Center - North Iowa on foot. Vehicles are to be used covering large parking areas and remote parts of the campus.
• Enforces hospital parking regulations and policy.
• Secures helicopter pad for landing and liftoff.
• Responds immediately to all Code calls, using the fastest and most direct means, and performs directed duties in accordance with Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa Policies.

Hours:

• 3rd shift, 20 hours per week

Education:

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Law enforcement education preferred.

Experience:

• At least one year of previous experience with public or military law enforcement agencies preferred.

Special Skills and Competencies:

• Neatness and diplomacy skills required.
• Writing skills necessary to file daily and special reports required.
• Must have valid driver’s license.
• Must be able to read, write and/or speak English.
• PC skills
