Job summary

MercyOne North Iowa Medical Center in Mason City, IA is seeking a part-time Environmental Services Technician to maintain a clean and safe hospital environment. The role focuses on disinfecting patient treatment areas, supporting infection prevention, and upholding high cleanliness standards across assigned spaces.

You will perform cleaning projects, prepare rooms for new patients, handle waste per policies, and assist visitors with directions.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.

• Basic computer skills and English communication.

Responsibilities

• Disinfect patient treatment, invasive care areas, staff and visitor areas to maximize infection prevention.
• Perform collection, storage, and disposal of general medical, biohazard, pharmaceutical, chemotherapy, sharps, and soiled linen products from patient areas.
• Clean remodeled or newly constructed areas and ensure they are ready for occupancy.
• Perform project cleaning tasks (cubicle curtain changes, construction cleanup, floor refinishing, carpet cleaning, wall washing, refrigerators, etc.).
• Prepare patient rooms and support areas for new patients including disinfection, bed making, floor care, and supplies replenishment.
• Interact with patients and visitors to provide directions, hospital information, and guest room services.

Position Purpose:

Provides a clean and safe environment for staff, visitors, and patients within the hospital. Enhances the appearance of the facility by maintaining a consistent floor care program.

What you will Do:

• Disinfect patient treatment, invasive care areas, staff and visitor areas to maximize infection prevention, enhance patient safety, ensure EOC compliance and enhance the visual appeal of assigned areas in accordance with established policies and procedures.
• Perform collection, storage, and disposal of general medical, biohazard, pharmaceutical, chemotherapy, sharps, and soiled linen products from patient treatment areas in accordance with established policies and procedures.
• Clean remodeled or newly constructed areas and ensure they are ready for occupancy.
• Perform project work to include cubicle curtain changes, construction cleanup, floor refinishing, carpet cleaning, wall washing, refrigerator cleaning, and other projects as assigned.
• Prepare patient rooms, exam rooms and patient support areas for new patients including disinfection, bed making, floor care, and supplies replenishment in accordance with established policies and procedures.
• Interact verbally with patients and visitors to provide directions, hospital information, guest room services and general hospitality.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education:

• 7. Must be able to maintain knowledge of chemicals used for cleaning and disinfecting (on-the-job training provided).
• 8. Demonstrates compliance with hospital and department safety policies and procedures.
• 9. With use of personal protective equipment, must be able to work around blood borne pathogens; blood and body fluids.
• 10. Maintains established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance program, safety, environmental and infection control standards.
• 11. Ability to be self-motivated preferred.
