Position: Security Officer – Part-Time

Location: Wilbur Wright College – Humboldt Park

The Security Officer – Part-Time protects and assists college students, faculty, staff, and visitors during an assigned shift. This position safeguards college property, reduces liability, and enforces applicable laws and college policies.

Primary Responsibilities

1. Patrols and monitors assigned areas, including buildings, docks, and parking lots, maintaining a professional appearance.
2. Protects and assists staff, students, and visitors, ensuring only authorized individuals with proper identification access facilities.
3. Enforces state and municipal laws, as well as college policies and rules.
4. Reports incidents, disturbances, and irregularities promptly and accurately.
5. Operates security vehicles and enforces parking regulations.
6. Responds to emergencies, provides first aid, and calls 911 when necessary.
7. Secures access to buildings and offices.
8. Maintains security equipment and radios.

Qualifications

1. Active or retired sworn law enforcement or corrections officer with at least two years of experience, valid driver’s license, CPR/First Aid certification, and hazardous materials training.
2. High school diploma or equivalent; higher education preferred.
3. Excellent verbal communication skills and ability to handle situations tactfully.
4. Basic computer skills, report writing, and report code knowledge.
5. Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and work well with others.

Physical Requirements

1. Ability to patrol campus on foot, run or jog briefly, stand for extended periods, climb stairs, and physically restrain individuals.
2. Lift up to 50 pounds and operate security equipment.
3. Perform CPR and first aid, including AED operation.
4. Work under all weather conditions.

Schedule and Other Requirements

1. Shifts range from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m., including weekends as needed.
2. Willingness to work flexible hours.

Salary: $23.07/hour
