Responsibilities

• Maintain day-to-day security of museum facilities, exhibits, staff, and visitors.
• Patrol restricted and public areas, survey galleries, entrances and exits, and provide security escorts as needed.
• Monitor security systems during third shift (12:00 a.m.–8:00 a.m.).
• Prepare detailed incident reports and assist with emergency response and safety duties.
• Assist with crowd control during events and enforce museum rules and safety policies.

Job description

The Security Officer is responsible for the day‑to‑day security and protection of the museum facilities, exhibits, staff, and visitors. The position requires walking and standing for long periods of time while patrolling the museum’s restricted and public areas, surveying the galleries, museum entrance and exit areas, and providing security escorts when needed. Third Shift Officers patrol the grounds and monitor security systems at both the Honolulu Museum of Art and Art School. Third shift works from 12:00 a.m. to 8:00 a.m. Five shifts per week, though overtime or emergency coverage may be required.

Desired Qualifications:

• GDE State Guard License or working toward GDE Certification.
• Understanding of Honolulu Museum of Art’s Mission and Vision or willing to learn and be part of it.
• Ability to or capacity to be trained in use of two‑way radios, CCTVs, and other security equipment.
• Maintains knowledge of, understands, and enforces museum rules and guidelines.
• Observes people, conditions, artwork at museum entrances, galleries, museum hallways, open spaces, stairwells, and all other areas both internal and external pertaining to the Honolulu Museum of Art.
• Detects, responds to, and reports unsafe conditions, vandalism, criminal/suspicious activities, fire/medical emergencies, and natural/man‑made disasters to security administration.
• Responds courteously and promptly to requests for assistance from visitors and staff.
• Ensure coverage of all post assignments and communicate concerns and deficiencies to Security management team
• Provide crowd control during special events and enforce all museum rules with regard to security and safety.
• Reacts calmly and effectively to emergency situations.
• Remains alert and watchful at all times while on duty.
• Records data by completing detailed and accurate reports for incidents such as property damage, unusual occurrences, and accidents or injuries.
• Helps keep the Museum presentable to visitors by performing light housekeeping duties such as sweeping, mopping, wiping, dusting and other cleaning as needed.
• Other duties as assigned.

Compensation:

The Honolulu Museum of Art is committed to practicing salary transparency. The starting wage for this position is$21.50 per hour. Please note that the pay information is a general guideline only. Many factors are taken into consideration when setting pay, including education, experience, the external labor market, and internal equity. Working Conditions and Atmosphere:

Third shift work from 12:00 a.m. to 8:00 a.m. Five shifts per week, though overtime or emergency coverage may be required. Advance notice will be given for training or meetings required outside of third shift hours.

Must have the ability to read, comprehend, and write simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos as well as effectively present information in one‑on‑one and small group situations to visitors and employees. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand and walk in dark and dimly lit conditions. The employee is occasionally required to sit and perform administrative and security tasks with manual dexterity. Must be able to observe cameras for long periods.
