Position Summary
Orlando Health is a 3,200-bed system including hospitals, emergency departments, rehabilitation, cancer and heart institutes, imaging, labs, wound care, physician offices, skilled nursing, behavioral health, home healthcare, and urgent care centers. It employs nearly 22,000 team members and has over 4,200 physicians across various specialties.
Provides security services to ensure order and safety of patients, visitors, and hospital personnel.
Responsibilities
- Escort visitors, employees, and students as requested.
- Patrol all hospital areas internally and externally on foot, bicycle, or vehicle 24/7 in all weather conditions. (Only officers meeting driver’s license standards for operating Orlando Health vehicles may perform motor vehicle patrols.)
- Assist all hospital areas, including sensitive zones, with access control.
- Detect suspicious activities, handle situations appropriately, report criminal activity, and collaborate with law enforcement.
- Investigate incidents, search for and preserve evidence, interview witnesses, and complete reports.
- Assist medical staff with enforcement of Baker Act and Marchman Act patients using approved restraints.
- Work with law enforcement regarding patient/prisoner intake and status, and assist in securing high-risk patients.
- Report safety and security violations campus-wide.
- Respond to helicopter flights, ensuring helipad safety and assisting with patient transport.
- Operate walk-through and hand-held metal detectors.
- Maintain regular attendance per Orlando Health policies, ADA, FMLA, and other standards.
- Comply with all Orlando Health policies and procedures.
Qualifications
Education/Training: High school diploma or equivalent; basic knowledge of Microsoft Word.
Licensure/Certification:
- Valid Florida driver’s license; must be insurable under Orlando Health insurance requirements.
- State of Florida Class “D” Security Officer License within 120 days of hire, renewed biannually.
- Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) Certification within 120 days, renewed annually.
- Basic Security Officer Certification or higher through the International Association of Hospital Security and Safety within 120 days.
