City of Hope Orange County Security Positions

City of Hope Orange County is transforming cancer treatment by bringing world-class expertise and specialized care closer to home. Supported by a regional network of care, our 11-acre academic cancer campus in Irvine is home to the City of Hope Orange County Lennar Foundation Cancer Center, our outpatient cancer center, and Orange County's only cancer specialty hospital, opening in late 2025.

With the opening of the hospital, the full continuum of advanced cancer care—from prevention through survivorship—will be available in Orange County for the first time, eliminating the need to travel for lifesaving treatment. The new clinical research hospital will feature 73 inpatient beds, advanced surgical suites, groundbreaking clinical trials, and holistic services such as rehabilitative therapy and spiritual care. This isn't standard cancer care. This is lifesaving cancer care. This is Hope.

Position Overview

Provides security for patients, employees, and visitors; protects buildings, assets, and premises as assigned. Works under the supervision of the Security Supervisor on shift but exercises initiative on matters not prescribed within established policies and procedures.

Multiple Positions and Shifts

• Evening Shift: 1500-2330 (32 hrs weekly)
• Night Shift: 2300-0730 (32 hrs weekly)

Key Responsibilities

• Dealing tactfully and courteously with the public and staff, answering inquiries effectively.
• Deterring and apprehending intruders with sufficient strength and agility.
• Monitoring premises via patrols (vehicle, foot, bike), securing and unlocking facilities, and maintaining logs of lost and found articles.
• Providing protection during the transportation of deceased patients and escorting medical staff.
• Controlling parking and traffic flow, enforcing regulations, and assisting with barrier movement.
• Responding to emergencies (fire, security breaches) to ensure safety.
• Participating in business continuity and recovery exercises.
• Monitoring visitors, confronting unauthorized persons, and reporting incidents.
• Maintaining records, preparing incident reports, and utilizing two-way radios for communication.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• At least 2 years of security experience; hospital security preferred.
• Completion of courses such as AB508/management of aggressive behavior within 3 months of hire.

Certifications and Licenses

• Current CA Driver's license.
• Guard Registration card.
• Pepper spray permit.
• CPR certification from the American Heart Association within 3 months of hire.
