Job summary

City of Hope is hiring a Security Guard to protect patients, staff and visitors across facilities in Southern California. The role includes patrols, access control, incident reporting, and collaboration with Security Leadership to maintain safety and order.

Requirements include a High School diploma, 2 years of security experience, a valid CA driver’s license, and current Guard Registration; CPR within 3 months. Hospital security experience is preferred; 2 positions available.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent is required.
• Minimum 2 years of security experience.
• Current California Driver’s license is required.
• Guard Registration, pepper spray permit, and CPR within 3 months of hire.
• Hospital security experience is preferred.
• Associate’s Degree in Criminal Justice is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Secure City of Hope premises and protect patients, staff, and visitors.
• Patrol buildings and grounds by vehicle, on foot, or bike.
• Respond to incidents; document and report events to leadership.
• Escort staff with patients as needed and monitor entrances.
• Control parking/traffic and assist with safety-related operations.
• Participate in emergency response and business continuity activities.

Day shift scheduled from 6am-2:30pm, including weekend availability needed.

This role provides security for patients, employees, and visitors; protects buildings, assets, and premises as assigned. Works under the supervision of the Security Supervisor on shift but during the assignment works independently, exercising initiative on matters not prescribed within established policies and procedures.

As a successful candidate, you will:

Secure premises:

• Patrols City of Hope buildings and premises to prevent fire, theft, vandalism, and intruders via, assigned vehicle, foot and/or bike patrol
• Secures and/or unlocks offices and facilities.
• Secures lost and found articles; maintains logs of items received
• Secures and escorts medical staff with patients that have deceased providing protection for the body

Parking lot monitoring, traffic patrol and transportation:

• Controls parking and traffic flow; enforces parking regulations.
• Assists with moving or transporting barriers

Emergency Response and Business Continuity Management:

• Responds to emergency (fire, oppression, etc.) conditions to contain and control for the protection of life and property.
• Participates in business continuity management recovery team and attends annual exercise(s).

Reports, Monitoring and Investigations:

• Monitoring of visitors on City of Hope premises; confronts unauthorized persons for questioning as needed.
• Notify, escalation and document unusual or suspicious incidents to Security Leadership. Reports safety and/or fire hazards or security violations.
• Escorts personnel to parking lots and City of Hope buildings.
• Participates in investigations; maintains records and prepares incident reports and other documents pertinent to security activities.
• Utilizes two-way radio communications.

Your qualifications should include:

• High School or equivalent.
• 2 years of security experience required. Criminal justice, armed forces, law enforcement or related field. Bike or foot patrol.
• Current CA Driver’s license.
• Guard Registration card; pepper spray permit; CPR within 3 months of hire.
• Preferably:Hospital security experience. Associate’s Degree, Criminal Justice.
