Position Summary

Performs the primary function of protecting property of members of the Washington University community by patrolling assigned parking areas on campus and providing escorts and motorist assists.

Job Description

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Conducts continuous, visible, roving vehicle or foot patrol of designated university parking areas commonly used by students, faculty, staff or visitors to the university.
  • Reports to Police or other appropriate authority, suspicious activity and persons or unsafe conditions observed at university properties or in surrounding neighborhoods.
  • Provides information to faculty, staff, students and the general public regarding campus activities, locations, directions and offices.
  • Explains parking rules and regulations to campus community and directs drivers to alternative parking areas as necessary.
  • Performs all duties associated with the University’s Motorist Assist Program including, but not limited to, lock out, jump start and customer transportation.
  • Conducts periodic checks of buildings examining doors, windows, lighting, gates, etc.to ensure they are properly secured.
  • Provides escorts using department vehicles or on foot.
  • Provides transport services for temporary disabled or ill students to and from residence halls and buildings on campus.
  • Provide transport services for students, as assigned, to and from the BJC Hospital system located in St. Louis City and St. Mary’s Hospital, located in the City of Richmond Heights.
  • Inspects vehicles for display of appropriate parking permits.
  • Enforces university parking rules and regulations.
  • Issues parking citations to vehicles parked in violation of University parking rules using TickeTrack hand held computer.
  • Consistent with departmental policies, tows and/or relocates vehicles.
  • Conducts traffic direction and control at special events.
  • Transports department vehicles and other equipment to and from service points as needed.
  • Conducts other requests for transport, pick-up or deliveries as approved by the on duty supervisor.
  • Reports to the dispatcher any problems discovered that might require maintenance notification for repair or review.
  • Conducts inspections of campus emergency telephones and reports mechanical problems.
  • Responds to fire alarms, maintenance alarms, access alarms and other alarms that do not require police authority and powers.
  • Prepares written reports or logs of activity and observations during the tour of duty.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Grade G05-H Salary Range

$17.03 - $24.61 / Hourly
