WORKING TITLE: Security Officer III

SHIFT: Saturday – Tuesday 4: 10 Hour Shifts (Overnight)
OPENING DATE:09/09/2026

  • Maintain a visible and welcoming presence on campus.
  • Patrol campus buildings, grounds, parking areas, and designated routes to promote safety and security.
  • Greet visitors, verify identification, issue temporary badges as needed, and direct or escort visitors to appropriate locations.
  • Monitor entrances, exits, gates, parking areas, and access control systems.
  • Approach and engage unknown individuals in a professional manner to determine their purpose on campus and coordinate with law enforcement when appropriate.
  • Conduct campus safety audits and inspections; identify and report safety hazards, facility concerns, or unusual activity.
  • Monitor video surveillance and access control systems.
  • Respond to alarms, emergencies, disturbances, and other incidents in accordance with established procedures.
  • Serve as the primary contact for emergency responders arriving on campus and assist law enforcement, fire, and EMS personnel as needed.
  • Assist with fire drills, emergency drills, and campus preparedness activities.
  • Utilize de-escalation techniques and sound judgment to address concerns and support a safe campus environment.
  • Create and maintain incident reports, activity logs, and other required documentation.
  • Communicate effectively with students, staff, families, visitors, and community partners.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
  • Attends work regularly in accordance with TSBVI leave policy.
  • Complies with all agency policies and procedures.

Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record and eligibility to operate state vehicles / golf carts.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Computer proficiency, including intermediate proficiency with Google Workspace (Gmail, Google Drive, and Google Calendar), with the ability to work independently, manage daily tasks efficiently, and troubleshoot basic user issues without assistance.
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods, and work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Security experience preferred.
  • Experience working with children and/or individuals with disabilities.
Working Conditions
  • Frequent walking, standing, and outdoor patrols throughout the workday.
  • Work outdoors in varying weather conditions, including heat, cold, wind, and rain.
  • Moderate exposure to environmental conditions such as dust, odors, and loud noise.
  • Maintain emotional control under stress and respond effectively to emergencies and frequent interruptions.
  • Work is performed primarily in and around an educational environment, including classrooms, residential dorms, offices, parking areas, and outdoor campus spaces
