Job summary

National Grid plc is seeking a Security Officer to monitor our premises and protect staff. You will patrol property, operate surveillance systems, and control access to ensure safety during day and night shifts.

The role demands prior law enforcement experience, a NYC concealed gun permit, and the ability to stand for long periods, lift up to 50 pounds, and pass medical and vision assessments. Training for LNG certifications is required.

Qualifications

  • 15+ years of law enforcement experience (municipal, state or federal).
  • Concealed gun permit for NYC and ability to carry a firearm.
  • Ability to stand, walk, climb ladders or steps during an 8-hour shift.
  • Lift or carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Valid US driver's license with a safe driving history.
  • Must pass post-offer hearing and vision assessment.
  • Fire Brigade training to obtain/maintain LNG certifications.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Job description

National Grid is seeking a highly competent Security Officer to join our team to monitor our premises and protect our valued staff. As a Security Officer, you will need a sharp eye with quick reaction time in the detection of any suspicious or criminal behavior, and prevention of theft or vandalism.
Shift: 3 days on / 3 days off, 5am-5pm and 5pm-5am

Key Accountabilities
  • Secure our premises and personnel by patrolling property, monitoring surveillance equipment, and access points.
  • Investigate security breaches, incidents, and other alarming behavior
  • Guard access points, permitting or refusing entry, restraining trespassers, and direct heavy traffic during start and end of business hours
  • Complete reports by recording observations, information, occurrences, and surveillance activities.
Qualifications
  • Previous law enforcement experience 15+ years (municipal, state or federal)
  • Concealed gun permit for NYC with the ability to carry a firearm
  • Able to stand, walk, climb ladders or steps during an 8-hour shift or irregular shift
  • Able to lift or carry up to 50 pounds
  • Valid US driver's license required with a safe driving history that meets National Grid's Safe Driver policy.
  • Must pass post-offer hearing and vision assessment
  • Will be required to take Fire Brigade training to obtain/maintain LNG certifications
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Pay Rate: $36.49 per hour
National Grid will not be providing visa sponsorship for this position now or in the future. You must have the ability to work without a need for current or future visa sponsorship.

Please be advised that due to the nature of this position, incumbents are subject to federal Drug & Alcohol safety regulations governing US Department of Transportation ("DOT") covered positions, including the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) and Pipeline Hazardous Material Safety Administration (PHMSA). As such, the Company's testing programs and policies regarding the use of federally prohibited drugs or alcohol, for recreational or medical purposes, will remain in effect for these safety-sensitive, DOT covered positions.
