Security Officer – Various Levels Available
Hourly rate: $21.00/hr + $2.00 evening shift differential + $3.00 overnight shift differential, DVOS. Security level will differ (Security Officer II, Security Officer III). Location: Carlsbad, CA. Work hours: Flexible – morning, afternoon, night shifts on any days, including weekends.

Job Responsibilities
- Maintain vigilance for unusual or suspicious individuals or situations.
- Monitor and operate surveillance, access control, and intrusion detection equipment; report and resolve issues promptly.
- Stand or patrol assigned posts, including foot‑patrol and long periods outdoors.
- Respond to emergency situations, administer first aid, assist in evacuation and crowd control.
- Respond to fire, safety, and security alarms following set protocols.
- Act as a trusted point of contact for personnel, students, vendors, and the public.
- Maintain vigilance and patrol the campus, providing a visible presence.
- Inform management of safety and security matters via logs, email, and verbal reports.
- Direct and escort visitors and vendors as needed.
- Assist in special events and tours organized at the institute.
- Log observations regarding security, safety, and maintenance issues.
- Coordinate with local law enforcement agencies when necessary.
- Operate emergency equipment as needed.
- Stay focused, attentive, alert, and engaged at all times.
- Communicate calmly, effectively, and courteously in both emergency and non‑emergency situations.
- Employ good judgment and sound decision‑making at all times.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Competencies
- Intermediate computer skills (Microsoft Office suite).
- Ability to learn and adapt to new software applications used in physical security operations.
- Basic troubleshooting of surveillance, access control, and intrusion detection equipment.
- Clear and concise report writing and typing.
- Good comprehension and logical thinking.
- Operation of security communication equipment.
- Calm, urgent response in emergency situations.
- Excellent judgment, threat detection, conflict resolution, problem‑solving.
- Strong communication skills, effective listening, polite and courteous demeanor.
- Adaptability to rapidly evolving situations and priorities.
- Maintain confidentiality of information.
Education & Experience
- High school diploma or GED.
- One to three years of related experience and/or training, or equivalent education and experience.
- Willingness to work any shift and any day, including weekends.
- Demonstrated ability to create positive professional interactions and maintain good working relationships with colleagues.
Required Certificates, Registrations & Licenses
- California Security Guard License (obtained/renewed at hire).
- First Aid, CPR & AED certification (obtained/renewed immediately after hire).
- Active Driver’s License.
Desired/Preferred Skills
- Documenting process‑flow diagrams and SOPs.
- Proficiency in MS Excel.
- Root cause analysis and corrective action planning.
- Experience with CCTV, access control, intruder alarm, and fire alarm handling.
Physical Requirements
- Standing, walking, sitting, lifting, and driving a company vehicle.
