AdventHealth Apopka is a seven-story, 120-bed hospital offering extensive services including surgical suites, a catheterization lab, a 30,000-square-foot emergency department, and more. Opened in December 2017, it replaced the previous hospital operated in downtown Apopka for over four decades.

The Role:

The Security Officer II interacts professionally and positively with the public, patients, employees, and administrators. Responsibilities include responding to calls, assisting in emergencies and non-emergencies, investigating and documenting hazards, incidents, and criminal activities, patrolling designated areas, and ensuring safety and security of all persons and property. The role requires initiative, judgment, competence, excellent customer service, and physical and psychological fitness clearance.

• Proactively patrol assigned areas, investigate suspicious activity, and report hazards or unusual circumstances.
• Participate in activities beyond security duties, such as transport of bodies, patient escort, safety checks, and event setups.
• Respond appropriately to emergency and non-emergency calls, using good judgment and providing assistance.
• Administer first aid within training limits.
• Respond to fire alarms and emergencies, communicating effectively with team members and authorities.
• De-escalate disputes verbally and manage violent situations physically when necessary, using approved techniques.
• Patrol areas, check identification, enforce hospital rules, assist visitors, and escort individuals when needed.
• Monitor traffic, investigate suspicious individuals, detain unauthorized persons, and document incidents.
• Use force when appropriate, following organizational policies.
• Support various campuses as needed and perform other assigned duties.

Qualifications:

Required Skills and Experience:

• Ability to read, write, comprehend, and interpret laws, policies, and safety rules.
• Ability to operate vehicles, equipment, and communication devices safely.
• Basic computer literacy (Windows, Word, Excel).
• Critical thinking, prioritization, confidentiality, and customer service skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team, especially under stress.
• Recognize faces and handle stressful situations diplomatically.

Preferred Knowledge and Experience:

• Access Control and CCTV systems knowledge.
• Understanding of Emergency Management principles.

Education and Experience:

• High School diploma or equivalent; 0 years experience required.

Licenses, Certifications, or Registrations:

• International Association for Healthcare Security and Safety (IAHSS) Basic Training certification or equivalent within six months of hire.
• Florida Driver's License.

Additional Certifications (Preferred):

• Basic Life Support (BLS).
• Handcuffing, Pepper Spray, Baton, TASER certifications or equivalents.
