Job summary

San Diego Zoo is seeking a Security Officer I to safeguard visitors, staff and animals, maintaining a safe, welcoming environment across the park. You will report to the Security Supervisor/Manager and act as first responder in emergencies while coordinating with dispatch.

The role requires a proactive, team-oriented approach, strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to perform investigations and produce clear reports. Must meet BSIS Guard Card and first aid requirements.

Qualifications

• Experience in security, law enforcement or related field is strongly desired.
• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Successful completion of a physical ability test.

Responsibilities

• Provides a positive security presence to promote a safe, inclusive, and family-friendly environment.
• Responds to medical assistance/emergency situations and supports dispatch as needed.
• Conducts investigations and prepares accurate and thorough reports that may be subpoenaed in court.
• Responds to guest issues including disagreements and disturbances.
• Responds to emergencies including fire, power outages, inclement weather, evacuations, wildlife escapes.
• Assists guests and staff and provides information as necessary.
• Transports and escorts money and secures vaults.
