Sentara Health is hosting a Security Officer Hiring Event for the Peninsula on Thursday, May 22, 2025, from 3 pm to 6 pm at Sentara Port Warwick II.

Security Officers can be hired into full-time and part-time positions supporting the following locations:

• Sentara CarePlex Hospital in Hampton, VA
• Sentara Port Warwick in Newport News, VA
• Sentara Williamsburg Regional Medical Center in Williamsburg, VA

Requirements

• Education: High School Diploma or Equivalent
• Certification/Licensure: Valid Driver's License with an acceptable driving record; Certified Healthcare Security Officer (CHSO) certification by IAHSS must be obtained within 90 days of hire.
• Experience: One year of security experience; military, law enforcement, or security officer experience preferred; de-escalation and physical intervention training completed within 180 days of hire.

Overview of Responsibilities

The Security Officer provides a safe environment for patients, visitors, and staff at Sentara Hospitals and Emergency Departments. Responsibilities include patrolling campus, monitoring activity, responding to routine and emergency situations, conducting surveillance, maintaining logs, documenting activities, investigating security incidents, evaluating situations, and taking appropriate actions. Sentara has implemented a Fit for Duty assessment, including response walk, stair climb, drag to safety, and lift to ensure minimum fitness standards.
