Job Summary

The Security Officer provides a secure environment for patient care functions of the Medical Center by protecting patients, visitors, and staff through patrol of buildings, property, and grounds. The Officer will respond to, evaluate, and assist with mitigating any security-related issues.

Requirements

Education & Experience

• High School Diploma or GED required
• Minimum of two years in law enforcement or public contract security, or one year healthcare security experience

License

• Valid Maryland Driver's License or from a neighboring jurisdiction (PA, DC) if this is their primary residence

Certification

• Attend training provided by the International Association for Healthcare Security and Safety (IAHSS) as a Healthcare Security Officer when offered

Other Skills and Requirements

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Meditech, Epic, Performance Manager/NetLearning, and other relevant systems
• Ability to read, write, and speak English clearly
• Ability to work independently, make decisions, and communicate effectively with personnel, visitors, and patients
• Flexibility, integrity, teamwork, and following instructions
• Knowledge of security duties, equipment, and laws regarding arrest, trespassing, and investigations
• Ability to operate security systems, including access control and CCTV
• Type at least 20 words per minute
• Work various schedules, including weekends and holidays, and support extended shifts during adverse weather or security situations

Additional Information

Must attend IAHSS training and pass certification exams. Failure to do so may lead to reassignment or termination. Knowledge of legal requirements and standards related to safety, security, and the environment of care is essential.
