Job Description

Job Summary | Major goals and objectives.

The Security Officer position is of key importance to the success of Dotdash Meredith as this is the first impression guests, clients, and potential clients have of the company. It is therefore imperative that a professional and courteous manner is always extended to all those who visit or call our facilities.

In this position you will:

  1. Provide security services ensuring the safety of employees and the security of workspaces and critical infrastructure.
  2. Enforce and adhere to all Dotdash Meredith security policies, procedures, rules, and regulations.
  3. Ability to handle public interaction with disorderly or disruptive people.
  4. Write detailed narrative reports and maintain daily activity reports.
  5. Respond to incidents and emergency situations requiring security assistance, ensuring appropriate action is taken by staff, appropriate parties were notified, and After-Action Reports are completed.
  6. Operate Fire Safety Command Station to make announcements and acknowledge alarms.
  7. Under the direction of the Security Manager, occasionally transport company staff to and from specified locations in a timely and safe manner using a company vehicle.
  8. Greet and tend to all guests, messengers, and delivery services in a highly professional manner.
  9. Assist security staff on nights, weekends and 3rd party special events if needed.
  10. Strong organizational skills, with an attention to detail and the ability to handle multiple tasks and prioritize.
  11. Complying with all procedures, rules, and regulations set forth by Department head.

Minimum Qualifications and Job Requirements | All must be met to be considered.

  1. Minimum 2 years of Security or similar experience preferred. Relative internship experience may qualify.
  2. Corporate Security, Military, Law Enforcement, or Executive Protection experience is not required, but a plus.
  3. Clean driving record as evidenced through a Motor Vehicle Records check.
  4. Must be willing to acquire First Aid/CPR certifications within 6 months of hire.
  5. Must be available to work a regular schedule, which may include daytime and/or nighttime shifts, plus overtime on an as-needed basis.
  6. A pleasant and positive attitude with a professional demeanor.
  7. Must be adept at interacting with all levels of an organization, from administrative to senior executive staff.
  8. Computer literacy in MS Office, Word and Email. Prior experience with access control, CCTV, and visitor management systems a plus.
  9. Must be able to work independently as well as in a team environment.
  10. As a condition of continued employment, the employee must maintain the current active status of all required licenses and must carry the license at all times while on duty.
  11. Applicant must pass the pre-screening process including a background investigation.
  12. Any training needed, licenses, and certifications will be 100% compensated.

Essential Physical & Mental Functions

  1. Read, understand and clearly speak English; constantly use speech and hearing (correctable to normal level required) in communicating with public/co-workers, giving and receiving instructions, using phones.
  2. Stand or walk constantly during 3rd party event when needed.
  3. Occasionally bend/twist at waist/knees/neck to perform various duties.
  4. Constant use of eyes (correctable vision to normal level required) to observe, read, interact with public and co-workers, view security monitors; includes hand/eye coordination.
  5. Work in various environments including adverse outdoor conditions such as cold, rain or heat.
  6. Constant mental alertness and attention to detail required while setting priorities and following up on assignments.
  7. Must be willing to follow the chain of command and established security procedures.
  8. Must be able to handle the pressure of working with a high-volume general public (ranging from constant to occasional, depending on assignment).
