Job summary

Mercyhealth is seeking an unarmed security officer to protect patients, visitors and staff. You will patrol facilities, inspect doors and locks, and respond to all dispatch calls while enforcing parking policies and reporting irregularities.

Position may require on-call, flexible hours, shifts, and weekend work. Training in Level 3 TACT tactics, handcuffing, OC spray, and baton will be provided; strong documentation and bilingual skills are preferred.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent as required.
• Bilingual skills are preferred.
• Illinois FOID (Firearms Owners Identification) card required or eligible for employment.

Responsibilities

• Greet patients, visitors and Mercyhealth partners professionally.
• Patrol buildings, grounds and parking to deter crime and identify irregularities.
• Respond to security calls and emergency codes; complete clear, accurate daily shift reports.
• Inspect doors, windows and locks; monitor CCTV/alarm systems.
• Enforce Mercyhealth parking policy and coordinate with maintenance for lighting/heating/vent issues.
• Assist with fire drills and take part in incident investigations.
• Train security staff at sites of responsibility as needed.

OverviewPerforms unarmed, uniformed security related services which include but are not limited to; Conducts rounds, secures the facility and the work environment for Mercyhealth partners. Responds to all security calls for assistance. May be required to be on call, work flexible hours, alternate shifts, and weekends. Perform other duties as assigned.Schedule: Weekdays and Weekend RotationESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESTakes initiative to greet all patients, visitors, and Mercyhealth partners in a timely, professional, and courteous manner projecting an open and friendly attitude on a daily basis.Provides a visible deterrence to crime and prohibited activities by patrolling the buildings, grounds, and parking lots of Mercyhealth to detect any irregularities. Inspects doors, windows and locks to ensure a high level of security.Respond to all dispatch/ security service calls and overhead emergency code calls.Checks grounds and areas for cleanliness and safetyPerform parking lot patrols and enforce Mercyhealth parking policyNotifies maintenance staff concerning need for repairs or additions to lighting, heating, and ventilating equipment through initiating a work order.Assist with completion of fire drills as requested.Write clear and accurate daily reports of shift activities and irregularities, such as equipment or property damage, theft, presence of unauthorized persons, or unusual occurrences.Provides initial investigation and documentation of incidents of unusual circumstances reported by Mercyhealth personnel, visitors, physicians, or patients.Orient and train security staff at respective sites of responsibility as needed and complete training documents.Monitors the Mercyhealth environment using electronic security equipment (CCTV, Alarms, etc.) as applicable by location.Is required to assure and/or request partners and contractors to display Mercyhealth badges or required proof of identity.Duties pertinent to site specific requirements will be assigned.Ensure the safety of all during takeoff and landings of MedFlights.Assist with identification of deceased patients and verification of credential of funeral home and Medical Examiner's Office personnel.EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCEHigh school diploma or equivalent required Security experience preferred.Bilingual skills are preferredCERTIFICATION/LICENSUREIllinois residents are required to possess a valid FOID (Firearms Owners Identification Card) card/ or be eligible to obtain one for employment.With the exception of House of Mercy, officers will complete department specific training (Level 3 TACT training, handcuffing, OC spray, ASP baton, and physical control tactics training, etc.) required within 12 months of hire.
