Job summary

Missouri Department of Mental Health seeks a Security Officer at St. Louis Forensic Treatment Center–North to protect clients, staff, and property. Responsibilities include rounds, incident reporting, investigations, vehicle dispatch, and emergency response.

The role requires a high school diploma and 1+ year security or related experience, plus a valid driver’s license. Competitive state benefits are included.

Responsibilities

• Conduct rounds throughout the facility, observing demeanor of public, employees, residents or clients
• Take action to ensure proper conduct is followed
• Investigate vandalism or theft, work with law enforcement as needed
• Prepare reports of infractions of laws, regulations or rules
• Report questionable conduct of staff, residents or public to supervisor
• Direct and control traffic in parking areas; install signs near emergencies if needed
• Assist in training security procedures and conduct searches as required
• Remove unruly individuals and detain until authorities arrive
• Dispatch facility vehicles and arrange repairs; check oil/gas for readiness
• Transport staff, residents/clients, and suspects as needed
• Aid in maintaining security and safeguarding people and property
• Conduct fire prevention checks and respond to alarms
• Follow established rules and receive supervision from a higher level Security Officer
• Perform other related duties as assigned

St. Louis Forensic Treatment Center-North provides specialized care for clients diagnosedwith mental illness. We are looking for a Security Officer to ensure that our facility, includingclients and staff, remain safe and undisturbed.

Responsibilities:

• Conductregularroundsthroughoutthefacilityand/orgroundsobservingthedemeanor of public, employees, residents or clients
• Takesnecessaryactiontoensurethatproperconductisfollowed
• Investigatesactsofvandalismortheftandworkscloselywithlawenforcementofficials on investigations as needed
• Preparesreportsofinfractionsoflaws,regulationsand/orrulesthatoccuronthe grounds or within the building
• Reportsquestionableconductofemployees,residents,clientsorthepublictoan immediate supervisor or other administrator
• Responsetoroutinequestionsandprovidesdirectionstothepublic
• Directsandcontrolstrafficatparkinglotsofpublicbuildings/facilities.Mayinclude installing traffic signs around emergency areas
• Assistsinimplementingtrainingprogramsinvolvingsecurityprocedures
• Assistsinorganizingandconductingsearcheswhenresidents/clientswalkawayor escape. Also assisting with distressed residents/clients
• Takesnecessaryactioninremovingunrulyindividualsordetainingthemuntilproper authorities arrive
• Dispatchesfacilityvehicles;receivesreportsofdifficultieswithvehiclesandarrangesfor repairs and also checks oil/gas to ensure readiness for the next use
• Transportsstaff,residents/clientsand/orsuspectsas needed
• Assistsotherfacilitypersonnelinmaintainingsecurityandensuringthatnecessary precautionary measures are taken for the protection of individuals and property
• Conductsfirepreventioninspectionsand respondstoallfire alarms
• Performs work in accordance with established rules and regulations; receives supervisionfromahigherlevelSecurityOfficerorotherdesignatedadministrative supervisor
• Performsotherrelatedworkasassigned

Eligibility:

• Possessionofahighschooldiplomaorproofofhighschoolequivalency
• One or more years of experience as a Security Guard with the State of Missouri, or experience in military, civilian security, law enforcement or experience within an intermediate/maximumsecuritymentalhealthfacilityperformingsecurityfunctions
• Possessavaliddriver’slicense
