Job summary

CommonSpirit Health's California Hospital Medical Center in downtown Los Angeles is hiring a Security Officer to maintain the highest level of safety by patrolling areas, deterring crime, and investigating suspicious activity.

Daily duties include monitoring electronic surveillance and emergency systems, dispatching officers by radio, responding to incidents, and protecting staff, patients, and visitors in a fast-paced healthcare environment, guided by our mission and values.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Six (6) months experience as security officer in a healthcare setting, Law enforcement, or military service OR One (1) year experience as a Security Officer.
  • Security Guard: CA license
  • Basic Life Support - CPR within 90 days
  • CA Driver's License within 30 days
  • Fire Safety within 90 days

Responsibilities

  • Patrol the facility and grounds by foot or vehicle; monitor security alarms and dispatch officers to locations; report unsafe acts or conditions.
  • Know emergency procedures, equipment, and hospital codes.
  • Report HIPAA breaches, investigate security breaches, and write incident reports.
  • Use appropriate emergency and radio codes in dispatching security officers while knowing hospital campus.
  • Maintain alignment with the organization’s mission, vision and values in decision making and actions.
  • Demonstrate professional and technical skills; build trust through respectful interactions reflecting integrity.

Job Summary and Responsibilities

As our Security Officer, you will maintain the highest level of safety and security by patrolling assigned areas, diligently deterring, detecting, and investigating suspicious activity or crime.

Every day you will effectively monitor electronic surveillance equipment and hospital emergency systems, dispatch appropriate personnel via radio, and actively patrol to protect individuals and property, all while embodying our core values and supporting strategic quality improvement.

To be successful in this role, you will demonstrate exceptional vigilance, strong observational skills, proficiency in electronic surveillance and dispatch systems, and a commitment to protecting our community while upholding our organizational values and contributing to a secure environment.

  • Protecting staff, patients, and visitors by responding to calls for assistance in a timely and prudent manner. Calls may include incidents such as violent or unruly patients, visitors, crimes committed or in progress, or to emergency codes, and requests for opening doors. Patrol the facility and grounds by foot or vehicle; monitor security alarms and dispatch officers promptly to location(s) where needed; and report unsafe acts or conditions.
  • Knowledge of emergency procedures, equipment, and supplies, including of radios and hospital codes.
  • Reports HIPAA breaches if witnessed; investigate security breaches, conducts investigations, and writes incident reports. Ensures that all activities are logged. That incident reports are accurately completed that they are clear, concise, legible and submitted in a timely manner.
  • Use appropriate emergency and radio codes in dispatching security officers while knowing hospital campus to ensure that dispatches are to right location. Keeping the organization’s mission, vision and values at the forefront of all decision making and action.
