Job summary

UChicago Medicine AdventHealth is seeking a full-time Security Officer for the Hinsdale, IL facility. Work is on the third shift, 9:45pm–6:15am, with a flexible days-off pattern.

You will respond to alarms, perform access control, document incidents, and support emergency responses while maintaining confidentiality and safety. Strong reading, writing, and communication skills are essential, along with basic IT proficiency and the ability to work under stress.

Qualifications

• Ability to read accurately and comprehend and write clearly for legal reports and narratives.
• Ability to read, interpret and apply safety rules and codes as required.
• Ability to listen, communicate effectively, and follow directions.
• Ability to operate vehicles, equipment, and radios safely and within policy.
• Computer literacy to use basic hospital/security applications.

Responsibilities

• Performs all security-related tasks as assigned by Supervisor.
• Responds to alarms, identifies source, and provides appropriate assistance.
• Maintains and uses issued equipment including radio devices.
• Provides initial support in emergencies and conducts facility lockdowns after hours.
• Documents crimes, incidents, and safety irregularities per policy.

Job Description:

• Third Shift
• Work hours: 9:45pm - 6:15am
• Days off: Monday & Tuesday off OR Thursday & Friday
• Performs all security-related tasks as assigned by the Supervisor and keeps them informed of unusual activities and events.
• Acknowledges and responds to alarms, determines the source of the alarm, and provides proper assistance.
• Utilizes and maintains all issued and operated equipment, including radio equipment, and complies with all applicable laws and department policies and procedures.
• Provides initial direction and support in emergency situations, performs facility lockdowns, and screens visitors and employees seeking entry after hours.
• Documents all crimes, incidents, and safety-related irregularities per department policy and procedure.
• Assesses situations with consideration for the age of individuals involved, gathers information pertaining to incidents such as thefts and accidents, and accurately completes appropriate documents in the correct format.
• Intercedes in disputes, both physical and verbal, using verbal de-escalation techniques, and manages aggressive behavior utilizing authorized training techniques.
• Administers initial first aid as appropriate.
• Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Ability to read accurately and comprehend, write clearly, and understand in a manner to effectively complete legal reports, narratives, and follow simple directions.[Required]

• Basic computer skills including, but not limited to, Windows, Word, and Excel.[Preferred]
• Knowledge of Access Control and CCTV systems.[Preferred]
• Understanding of Emergency Management principles.[Preferred]
• 40-hour Security Officer training.[Preferred]
• Hazmat training.[Preferred]

Education:

• High School Grad or Equiv [Required]

Licenses and Certifications:

• Driver's License (DL) [Required]
• Basic Life Support - CPR Cert (BLS) [Preferred]
