Job summary

UP Health System - Portage is seeking a Security Officer to safeguard patients, staff and visitors across the campus. You will monitor for threats, respond to incidents, maintain alarm and emergency plans, and coordinate drills to ensure readiness.

The role requires a High School Diploma or equivalent, strong judgment under pressure, and the ability to work with minimal supervision on a 12-hour shift schedule. Training within 3 months is required.

Qualifications

• Requires high school diploma or equivalent; associates degree preferred.
• Must have critical thinking, decisive judgment, and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
• Handle With Care training to be completed within 3 months of hire.

What We're Looking For

Security Officer:

• Education: High School Diploma or Equivalent Required. Associates Degree preferred.
• Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
• Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
• Variable schedule, 12 hour shifts. Must be complete Handle With Care training within 3 months of hire.

UP Health System - Portage has been serving Michigan's Western Upper Peninsula since 1896. It supports a multi-specialty medical community with over 40 physicians, and more than a dozen allied health professionals. The main campus features a 36-bed hospital, accredited as a chest pain center by the Society of Cardiovascular Patient Care (SCPC).
