Job summary

Bayhealth Medical Center in Kent Campus Hospital is seeking a Security Officer to protect patients, staff and visitors across Bayhealth properties. The role reports to a Public Safety Supervisor and requires vigilance, professional conduct and the ability to work evenings.

This full-time position includes the evening shift 3:30pm–12 Midnight, walking and standing as needed, and opportunities for ongoing training in security procedures and de-escalation.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required for eligibility.
  • Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record required.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 90 days if not already obtained.
  • CHSO-Basic certification within 6 months of hire if not already obtained.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain security and safety of Bayhealth employees, patients, and visitors.
  • Patrol facilities and monitor access to prevent incidents and ensure order.
  • Respond to safety incidents, document reports, and assist during emergencies.
  • Escort personnel to parking lots and building entrances as needed.
  • Enforce parking regulations and support coordination with emergency responders.

Location: Kent Campus Hospital

Status: Full Time 80 Hours

Shift: Evenings 3:30pm-12 Midnight

SALARY RANGE: 18.27 - 27.40 HOURLY

General Summary

As a member of the Bayhealth Public Safety team this incumbent is responsible for ensure the security, safety, and well‑being of all Bayhealth Properties and individuals there within. Reporting to a Public Safety Supervisor the Security Officer is responsible for ensuring a secure environment for employees, patients and visitors at Bayhealth by providing service of the highest quality, which optimizes our patient’s healthcare experience. This position may require long periods of walking, standing, or sitting. The Security Officer may be required to man the Public Safety Control Desk at times.

Department team members are authorized to have limited access to secured medication rooms to perform duties and responsibilities as defined in this job description. Any staff member requiring limited access to secured medication rooms must have a fully completed and signed Medication Security Agreement for Non‑Licensed Personnel form on file and available upon request.

Responsibilities
  • Maintains established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance program and safety standards.
  • Works to build a cooperative and proactive department using current law enforcement, security, and crime prevention techniques and technology. Builds and maintains relationships with hospital staff and local emergency responders.
  • Patrols medical center buildings and premises to prevent fire, theft, vandalism, and intruders. Secures and unlocks facilities.
  • Monitors conduct of visitors on medical center premises confronts unauthorized persons for questioning as needed.
  • Responses to, intervenes in, and documents safety and security incidents.
  • ) Escorts personnel to parking lots and medical center buildings. Responds to inquiries for advice or assistance from medical center personnel, students, and visitors.
  • Controls parking and traffic flow; enforces parking regulations.
  • Respond to all calls assigned and intervene appropriately. This may include acts of disorderly conduct or violence. Will be required to administer patient restraints when authorization is provided by an approved medical practitioner.
  • Maintain records and prepares incident reports and other documents pertinent to security activities.
  • Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, in‑service meetings, and workshops.
  • Provides services consistent with the organization’s philosophy of delivering compassionate, competent care while assuming personal responsibility promoting wellness, respecting diversity and maintaining confidentiality.
  • Must be able to work all shifts and during times of emergency be able to respond to Bayhealth when called. Overtime may be required when necessary to ensure minimum staffing levels.
  • Must be able to successfully complete all required departmental training programs within required time frames. Training includes but is not limited to: Handcuffing Certification, Oleoresin Capsicum Certification, NAPPI De‑Escalation Training, and IAHSS Certifications.

  • Education: High School Diploma or GED
  • Credential(s): Driver License Driving Record Required. Basic Life Support -Within 90 days, if not already obtained. CHSO-Basic within 6 months of hire if not already obtained Due to insurance carrier requirements, all staff must be at least 21 years of age with a current class D driver’s license with no more than 2 moving violations or accidents in the past 3 years.

  • Experience: Preferred: 1 year experience in law enforcement or security is desirable. Hospital experience is desirable.
