Job summary

Bayhealth Medical Center is seeking a licensed Pharmacist to ensure high safety standards and regulatory compliance across the Pharmacy. The role, based at Kent Campus Hospital, oversees medication safety initiatives and contributes to the Accreditation Process.

With a required 5 years in hospital pharmacy and licensure within 4 months, the position is full‑time (80 hours) in daytime shifts. MBA and 8 years' managerial hospital experience preferred.

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor Degree Pharmacy.
  • Credential: Licensed Pharmacist; if DE licensure isn't held, must obtain within 4 months.
  • Experience: minimum 5 years in Hospital Pharmacy.
  • Preferred: MBA or related field; 8 years in acute hospital with managerial experience.
  • Knowledge of Joint Commission, Delaware Board of Pharmacy, FDA, USP <797>/<800>, and ASHP standards.
  • Knowledge of pharmacy operations, personnel management, and budgets.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinates all activities related to medication safety and regulatory compliance: reporting, evaluation, and intervention.
  • Identifies key projects related to medication safety and regulatory compliance.
  • Coordinates implementation of these projects system-wide.
  • Ensures compliance with State and Federal regulations pertaining to medication safety.
  • Assists in the Accreditation Process.
  • Conducts Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA).
  • Identifies safety/regulatory deficiencies and implements corrective actions.
  • Participates in departmental and unit improvement processes and task forces.
  • Maintains expert knowledge of standards used by High Reliability Organizations.

SALARY RANGE: 136,406.40 - 211,411.20 YEARLY

General Summary:

A licensed Pharmacist responsible for assuring Pharmacy is providing the highest standards pertaining to patient and staff safety. Assuring the Pharmacy is compliant with all Joint Commission and other Federal and State regulatory agencies overseeing Bayhealth. Incumbent is responsible for investigating all Safety First Reports and responding appropriately.

Responsibilities:

  1. 1. Coordinates all activities related to medication safety and regulatory compliance: a) Reporting b) System and process evaluation c) Formulation of recommendations and initiatives d) Coordination of intervention strategies e) Monitoring of activities related to medication safety and regulatory compliance
  2. 2. Identifies key projects related to medication safety and regulatory compliance.
  3. 3. Accountable for coordinating the implementation of these projects system-wide.
  4. 4. Ensures compliance with State and Federal Regulations as well as legal requirements relating to medication safety and regulatory compliance.
  5. 5. Assists in the Accreditation Process.
  6. 6. Conducts Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and Failure Mode and Effect Analysis.
  7. 7. Identifies safety and regulatory deficiencies; suggests and helps to implement appropriate corrective-actions.
  8. 8. Participates in the departmental and unit based improvement process on a routine basis and other task force / committees as designated.
  9. 9. Maintains expert knowledge of the defined standards and criteria used by High Reliability Organizations.

Required Education, Credential(s) and Experience:

  • Education: Bachelor Degree Pharmacy
  • Credential(s): Licensed Pharmacist; If DE Pharmacist Licensure isn't held at the time of hire, licensure must be obtained within 4 months of the start date.
  • Experience: Required: Minimum of 5 years of experience in Hospital Pharmacy.

  • Education: Master Degree Business Administration or Master Degree Related field

  • Experience: Preferred: Eight (8) years of experience in an acute hospital setting with managerial experience. Comprehensive knowledge of current standards and regulations disseminated by The Joint Commission, Delaware State Board of Pharmacy, FDA, USP <797>/<800>, and ASHP as they relate to medication safety and departmental and organizational regulatory compliance. Knowledge of pharmacy operations, personnel management, and budgets.
