Qualifications

Job Title: Security & Operations Support Officer

Department: Security (with cross-departmental deployment)

Reports To: Security Manager

Position Summary

The Security & Operations Support Officer is a versatile, mission-critical role that bridges the Security, Events, and Curatorial departments.

While based in the Security Department, this position functions as a floater, providing essential support across the museum to ensure the safety of people and collections, the success of public and private events, and the smooth operation of exhibitions and gallery spaces.

Key Responsibilities
Security & Safety
  • Maintain a secure and welcoming environment for guests, staff, and collections through regular patrols and monitoring.
  • Operate surveillance systems, two-way radios, and alarm systems; respond promptly to emergencies and incidents.
  • Assist with opening and closing procedures, including securing galleries, setting alarms, and managing lighting systems.
  • Participate in emergency preparedness drills and contribute to safety planning.
  • Must be available to remain on-site at the museum during severe weather events, including storms, which may require overnight stays to ensure the safety and security of the collection.
Event Support
  • Assist with event setup and breakdown, including staging furniture, AV equipment, signage, and décor.
  • Provide on-site security and logistical support during museum events, rentals, and off-site outreach programs.
  • Coordinate with the Events team to ensure smooth guest flow, access control, and adherence to safety protocols.
  • Reset museum spaces post-event to ensure readiness for daily operations.
Curatorial & Gallery Operations
  • Support the Curatorial Department with gallery maintenance, including lighting adjustments, AV troubleshooting, and minor exhibition upkeep.
  • Assist with art handling tasks such as crate packing/unpacking, object movement (under supervision), and gallery resets.
  • Monitor environmental conditions and report any issues that may affect collections or displays.
Facilities & Operations
  • Conduct daily inspections of museum grounds and facilities; report and follow up on maintenance or custodial needs.
  • Serve as a liaison between departments to ensure operational continuity and readiness.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Performance Measures
  • Consistent adherence to safety and security protocols.
  • Timely and accurate completion of cross-departmental tasks.
  • Quality and professionalism in event and curatorial support.
  • Responsiveness to evolving museum needs and priorities.

Qualifications
Education
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Additional training or certification in security, museum studies, or event management is a plus.
Experience
  • Minimum 2 years in a security, facilities, or operations role preferred.
  • Experience in museums, cultural institutions, or event logistics strongly preferred.
  • Working knowledge of surveillance and communication systems.
  • Familiarity with AV equipment, gallery lighting, and safe handling of delicate objects.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to remain calm and professional under pressure.
  • Self-motivated, adaptable, and able to work independently or as part of a team.
  • Comfortable working in a public-facing role with diverse audiences.
  • Ability to read and interpret event floor plans and logistics sheets.
Physical & Special Requirements
  • Ability to stand, walk, and patrol for extended periods.
  • Capable of lifting up to 50 pounds and performing physical tasks related to event setup.
  • Willingness to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
  • Must pass a pre-employment background check and drug screening; random screenings may occur during employment.
  • Must be able to work in varied environments, including off-site locations.
  • Ability and willingness to work in a major construction site environment.

  • Schedule: 8-hour shifts, with flexibility for special events.
