Job summary

Bartow Airport Authority in Florida is seeking a full-time Security Officer to protect airport property, facilities, employees, tenants, visitors, and the public. You will perform patrols, monitor areas, respond to alarms and incidents, and assist customers with information.

The role requires a high school diploma or GED and Florida Class D Security Officer License; prior security, law enforcement, military, or customer service experience is preferred.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Conduct routine patrols of airport property, buildings, parking areas, hangars, and grounds.
  • Monitor facilities for unauthorized access, hazards, or violations; enforce policies.
  • Respond to alarms, disturbances, emergencies, and requests for assistance.
  • Provide information and customer service to tenants, employees, visitors, and the public.
  • Prepare accurate incident and activity reports and maintain equipment.
  • Operate security cameras, access control, radios, and other equipment.

Job description

MAJOR FUNCTIONS

This position involves providing security services to protect Authority property, facilities, employees, tenants, visitors, and the public. Employees perform routine patrols, monitor facilities, respond to incidents, enforce Authority policies, and maintain a safe and secure environment. Employees perform essential functions as outlined herein according to the functional assignment area.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

The following statements describe the principal functions of this job and its scope of responsibility but should not be considered an all-inclusive listing of work requirements. Individuals may perform other duties as assigned, including working in other functional areas to cover absences or relief, to equalize peak work periods, or otherwise to balance the workload.

  • Conducts routine patrols of airport property, buildings, parking areas, hangars, and grounds to deter criminal activity and identify safety or security concerns.
  • Monitors facilities and property for unauthorized access, suspicious activity, hazards, or violations of Authority rules and regulations.
  • Responds promptly to alarms, disturbances, emergencies, accidents, and requests for assistance.
  • Assists airport tenants, employees, visitors, and the public by providing information and customer service.
  • Prepares accurate reports documenting incidents, observations, and daily activities.
  • Monitors security cameras, access control systems, and other security equipment.
  • Controls access to restricted areas and verifies identification and authorization as required.
  • Coordinates with law enforcement, fire rescue, emergency medical services, and other emergency responders when necessary.
  • Reports maintenance, safety, and security concerns to the appropriate personnel.
  • Enforces airport policies, procedures, and applicable regulations in a professional and courteous manner.
  • Maintains assigned security equipment and vehicles in proper operating condition.
  • Required to report to work at the appointed hour, as scheduled, and to work the entire assigned schedule.

SECONDARY FUNCTIONS

  • Assists during special events, public meetings, and emergency operations.
  • Provides escorts for contractors, vendors, and visitors as required.
  • Assists with emergency evacuations and incident scene security.
  • Supports other employees in the event of absence.
  • Performs other tasks as assigned.

SUPERVISION

This position has no supervisory responsibilities. Requires self-supervision, sound judgment, and the ability to make appropriate decisions in routine and emergency situations.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS

Education and Experience

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); with one year of related security, law enforcement, military, customer service, or equivalent experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Licenses

  • Florida Class D Security Officer License

MACHINERY AND EQUIPMENT

While performing the duties of this position, the employee will be required to operate security vehicles, golf carts, radios, computers, telephones, surveillance systems, access control systems, flashlights, traffic control devices, and other equipment necessary to perform assigned duties.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee will frequently be required to stand, walk, patrol, climb stairs, bend, kneel, crouch, and reach with hands and arms. The employee may occasionally be required to lift and carry up to 50 pounds without assistance. Vision requirements include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus. The employee must be able to hear and communicate effectively by radio and telephone.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Work is performed both indoors and outdoors under varying weather conditions. Employees may be exposed to loud noise, moving vehicles, aircraft operations, adverse weather, uneven terrain, and emergency situations. The position requires regular patrol of airport property and may involve working evenings, weekends, holidays, overtime, and responding to emergency callouts.
