Mayo Foundation for Medical Education and Research in Albert Lea seeks a part-time Security Officer. Responsibilities include providing security presence, patrolling premises, and assisting in emergency situations. Mayo Clinic Global Security Officers provide a professional level of customer service and security presence. A Security officer will proactively patrol Mayo Clinic property and security sensitive areas. They will assist visitors, patients, and staff as needed and help prevent and deter fire, theft, vandalism, illegal entry, etc.
They may utilize a security vehicle on a regular or occasional basis; enforce Mayo policies and respond to complaints and service calls for wrongdoing, prepare incident reports/activity logs, and may work in the Security control centers.
A Security Officer adapts to unpredictable and stressful situations; manages altercations and emergency crises in an effective and professional manner; operates and communicates on a two‑way radio; exhibits good judgment, maturity, initiative, tact and diplomacy when dealing with people in stressful situations. They will frequently be walking, standing, stooping, bending, lifting, pulling, climbing, reaching, and pushing, and occasionally running; are able to move quickly up and down stairwells, from the ground floor up to the top floor of each building without assistance; assist patients, volunteers, visitors, and staff with emergency evacuations, including evacuations in stairwells, to include handling emergency evacuation devices used to transport patients and others to safety; make effective decisions as an emergency first responder, are confident in stressful situations, and work as a team member with other emergency responders, including law enforcement and fire/rescue personnel.
They are able to work nights and weekends for security and protection assignments and when required by emergency or special situations.
This position may be required to carry and deploy a taser.
High school degree or GED equivalent is required.
Associate’s degree in law enforcement, criminal justice, security, or a related field preferred; minimum two years of experience in a customer service, military, security position and/or a similar role; experience in a healthcare setting preferred; experience in patrolling, incident report writing, defensive tactics, emergency response, lock/unlock procedures, door access, and CCTV camera operation; experience with Windows XP or newer as well as intermediate skills in Microsoft Office software applications; technical aptitude to work with Security Technology is preferred.
Previous security experience; able to work independently and in a team‑environment; requires strong sense of customer service and interpersonal skills to interact with patients, visitors and employees; requires strong written and verbal skills; strong problem‑solving skills are necessary.
Has the ability to read and communicate effectively in a pleasant, courteous, professional and friendly manner. Maintains a professional appearance at all times per organizational and department standards. Can restrain potentially violent individuals; demonstrated ability to remain calm and assume control of emergency situations.
Staff must participate in routine and ongoing training and development programs as required by the organization or department.
Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record in accordance with Mayo Clinic Policy; must obtain certification from the International Association for Healthcare Security and Safety (IAHSS) as a Healthcare Security Officer within 6 months. Training certification in AVADE Workplace Violence Training, basic CPR and AED, required within 1 year.
